Questions and Answers (47-193) Date: September 25, 2020
Solicitation Number W50S9F-20-R-0001 F-35 Simulator Facility, Madison, Wisconsin
47. Question: Are there blast requirements pertaining to doors or glazing?
Answer: There are no ATFP blast resistant requirements for the system components other than laminated safety glazing needs to be provided per UFC 4-010-01 DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings: The storefront and glazing specifications were updated as part of the answer to Question #20.
48. The drawings and Spec sections 10 14 00.10 Exterior Signage and section 10 14 00.20 Interior Signage do not have a Signage Schedule, please advise.
Answer: Please refer to the answer to Question #7.
49. Question: Spec Section 11 31 13 Electric Kitchen Equipment has Refrigerator and Microwave Oven in the spec. However, Sheet A107 has two refrigerators and one microwave that are not in contract.
What Kitchen Equipment is required from the General Contractor?
Answer: The refrigerator and microwave are NIC (Not included in Contract). The specs will be deleted. See Amendment 0005.
50. Question: When submitting a bid to a GC, I want to be sure I am estimating a system that is appropriate. Is there any information beside the specifications that can help me on this? Perhaps there is a similar project that you have worked on which used a specific epoxy system.
Answer: It is unclear which system is the subject of this question. If this is about the epoxy floor coating, the specification provides the requirements.
51. Question: What role does the General Contractor have in installing the Simulators and other furniture or equipment?
Answer: None, except if specifically noted in the plans and specifications.
52. Question: On sheet A102 the east wall of room B/DB 3-104 seems to indicate a furred out wall. The wall type called for is “A”. Wall type “A” on sheet A501 does not call for furring. Please confirm the desired wall configuration.
Answer: Provide Wall Type C (furred) on B/DB side, and Wall Type A on Corridor 118 side. See Amendment 0005.
53. Question: On sheet A102 the east wall of room B/DB 2-104 seems to indicate a furred out wall. The wall type called for is “AA.3”. Wall type “AA.3” indicates no furring in the description. Please confirm the desired wall configuration.
Answer: Provide Wall Type AA.2 as noted on the A102. See Amendment 0005.
54. Question: On sheet A102 the north wall of Corridor 117 seems to indicate a furred out wall, also seems to be shown on building section 2/A301. The wall type called for is “AA.3”. Wall type “AA.3” indicates no furring in the description. Please confirm the desired wall configuration. Similar condition also exists at east wall of Rm 125.
Answer: Provide Wall Type AA.1 as noted on the A102. See Amendment 0005.
55. Question: On sheet A304 on detail that is called out as 2/A303 there is a reference to a wall type E.
There is no wall type on the wall type schedule A501. Please clarify. Wall type E is also referred to on detail 1/A401.
Answer: Should refer to Wall Type A, not E on A304. See Amendment 0005.
56. Question: On sheet A101, A102 and A 103 there is multiple locations that contain a solid line with double dashes “------- - - --------“. Locations such as east wall of 4-102, north and west wall of 124, etc. Please confirm what this designation is intended to convey. On sheet G003 the General Line Symbology indicates this line would be indicating a 2 hour rated wall. However, if the walls designated as smoke partitions and one hour rated walls on G102 are compared to the lines designations on A101-A103 there are multiple walls that conflict. Please clarify.
Answer: The double dashed line work on A101, A102 and A103 delineates the walls that enclose the secure areas numbered 1 thru 5 on sheet A101. Required fire rated walls and smoke partitions are shown on G101, Life Safety Plan. There are no 2-Hour fire walls on the project.
57. Question: On sheet A103 along column line A from column line 1 to 3.5 and on column line 1 from lines A to C.4 and lines D to F there is no exterior wall sections nor wall types called for. It appears as though there may be drywall furring desired at rooms 114, 128, 129, 108, 109, 106, and similar.
Please provide wall type or wall sections at the different wall types.
Answer: Exterior wall construction in those areas is shown on enlarged window details on sheet A504, details 1 thru 3.
58. Question: Detail 3/A302 and 3/S508 show structural and architectural cuts of same area. The configuration and the location of the studs in relation to beam and the column line are not the same on each detail, i.e. the architectural shows EIFS bumped out and insulation around roof beam flange, structural shows studs passing by and attaching to the beam on the exterior side. Please confirm or clarify what is intended at this location.
Answer: The studs between the low roof and the upper roof parapet should be placed on the outward side of the beams as shown on 3/S508. This allows the parapet to cantilever above the high roof. The stud framing below the low roof can remain where it is shown on 3/A302.
The structural detail 3/S508 is correct and should take precedence for stud placement and connections above the low beam since it will be constructed first. The EIFS system will attach to these studs the same way and actually be simplified and eliminate the bump out. The offset of the partition wall studs below the low beam and deck, which is the east interior wall of Patch Panel 121, can be spotted during construction layout so it aligns with the floor plan dimensions.
59. Question: On sheet A103 at vestibules 100 and 105 at three of the walls there appears to be a CMU wall with furring on both sides. No wall types are called for on drawings and the wall type schedule on A501 does not reference any walls with his configuration. The fourth wall (south side of Vest 105) indicates an “AA.3” wall that the wall type schedule on A501 indicates no furring. Please clarify the wall types at the Vestibules.
Answer: At Vestibule 101 the floor plan on sheet A103 is graphically correct. Refer to wall construction details on sheet A504. Exterior finish of EIFS should extend into the jamb of Door 100A and then transition to interior gypsum board finish. Plan A103 updated for wall-type clarifications.
See Amendment 0005.
60. Question: On section 1/A303 along column line 2.2 it appears to indicate that two separate walls are located here. On sheet A103 it seems to only indicate one wall as type “A’. Please confirm wall type.
Answer: Detail 1/A402 shows Wall Type A (as also shown on the floor plan) cut through in the foreground and beyond is a structural column located at column lines D/2.2. Wall Type A is correct.
This wall is offset from the beam centerline above so the gypsum board can run continuous vertically up through the skylight curb construction. Refer also to detail 3/A304 and note that the metal stud wall noted as Wall Type E should be Wall Type A. This is corrected in A304. See
61. Question: In spec section 05 54 00 Item 2.1.1 it states studs 54 mils and heavier are to be G90 galvanized coated. Please confirm this applies to both interior and exterior studs, i.e. can the interior studs be G60 galvanized coating.
Answer: G60 galvanized studs will be acceptable at the interior, specification 05 40 00 is updated.
See Amendment 0005.
62. Question: At detail 1/A402 on west and east walls it appears like there is a double wall at both of these locations. Sheet A103 indicates a wall type “A” on west and wall type “B.2” on east. Please confirm the wall types at these locations.
Answer: Detail 1/A402 shows Wall Type A (as also shown on the floor plan) in the foreground and beyond is a structural column located at column lines D/2.2. Wall Type A is correct. This wall is offset from the beam above so the gypsum board can run continuous vertically up through the skylight curb construction.
63. Question: On Sheet S001 Note C1. It specifies a strength of 4,500 psi for concrete. This conflicts with the strengths listed in the table on Spec Section 03 30 00 Page 22. Please confirm which strength is correct.
Answer: Structural concrete for foundations, footings, and slabs on grade shall have a 28-day compressive strength f’c = 4,500 psi, specification 03 30 00 section 2.5.1.i is updated accordingly.
Non-structural concrete will meet the most stringent requirement for exposure to freeze/thaw, chloride, and sulfate as specified in 03 30 00 2.5.2.2, 2.5.2.3, and 2.5.2.4. See Amendment 0005.
64. Question: A footing step is indicated near grid intersection D-3, but the elevations don’t show a step.
Please confirm if a step is required and to what elevation.
Answer: A stepped footing is not required, this label is removed from S103. See Amendment 0005.
