REPLACE B-120 CHILLER

QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

As of 8/3/22

1. Question: In lieu of using the ASTM C547 and ASTM C795 rigid molded noncombustible, with wicking materiel as specified in the HVAC PIPING INSULATION SPEC NUMBER 23 07 19, page 2, paragraph 2.2 Note A. and Weatherproofed with smooth Aluminum and aluminum fitting covers. Can we use 2" thick polyunsaturate (urethane) pipe insulation with a ASJ jacket vapor barrier, weather proofed with a PVC jacket and use PVC fitting covers?

Answer: The exterior above grade piping is called out in specification 23 21 13 – Hydronic Piping section 2.3.A as factory insulated HDPE pipe and does not require additional insulation. The proposed insulation is allowable with 2.3.B PP-RCT piping. The scheduled insulation in 23 07 19 – Piping Insulation section 2.2.A is for the interior chilled water piping required for the piping for the bypass valve.

2. Question: What is the weight of the existing chiller to be removed?

Answer: The existing chiller weighs approximately 12,000 lbs.

3. Question: Please confirm the location of the existing 2-way valve within the Special Access Program Facility (SAPF) that requires replacement with a 3-way valve and describe access situation in the area of the valve?

Answer: The note pertaining to replacing the 2-way valve on HVAC-1 is to be removed as the existing 2-way valve shall remain as is. Install the bypass as indicated on the first floor partial piping plan with a 2- 1/2” bypass line, 2-way valve and a circuit setter set for 105 GPM. (Wording revised 3 Aug 22)

4. Question: Please confirm the intent is to remove the section of existing fence on C-1 where the new bump out around the Chiller is indicated?

Answer: Confirmed.

5. Question: What is the existing glycol %?

Answer: 30% Propylene Glycol/70% Water

6. Question: Is lightning protection required on the Chiller?

Answer: No.

7. Question: Where the new pipes run vertically down the SAPF simulator wall on the East side just North of the ladder near the corner, can we attach brackets to the wall?

Answer: Yes if the attachment does not penetrate the wall. Refer to - WALL TYPES-BI ADD_072922.pdf. (Wording revised 3 Aug 22)

8. Question: Are there any special requirements when we cap the pipes and conduit that penetrate the roof of the

SAPF?

Answer: Yes. The contactor shall treat existing abandoned penetrations as spare conduits per IC Tech Spec for ICD/ICS705 Section G. SCIF Perimeter Penetrations Criteria. “Installation of additional conduit penetration for future utility expansion is permissible provided the expansion conduit is filled with acoustic fill and capped (end of pipe cover).”

W50S9C22B0004

Additionally, the government will perform a sound test on capped conduits to verify that the contactors workmanship meets (Sound Transmission Class) STC-50 criteria. (Wording revised 3 Aug 22)

REMINDER – ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED FIVE WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO BID OPENING

DATE (FRIDAY 5 AUG 22).
