STATEMENT OF WORK
M2, M48, AND M2A1 CALIBER .50 MACHINE GUNS AND SUPPORT PACKAGES
C.1.0 SCOPE. This is an Unclassified Procurement, and the objective of this Statement of Work (SOW) is to manufacture, package, and deliver machine guns and spare part packages for the M2 family of caliber .50 machine guns; including the M2, M48, and M2A1.
Support packages include spare barrels, special tools and gauges, maintenance support items, and operator and field maintenance training for each of the machine guns as specified for each delivery order.
C.2.0 BACKGROUND. The M2 family of machine guns are automatic, recoil-operated, link-belt-fed, air-cooled, caliber .50 crew-served weapons: capable of right and left-hand feed. The M2 is capable of firing single-shot and automatic and includes a backplate small-arms safety. It is used as a ground gun mounted on an M205 (or legacy M3) tripod mount, MK93 mount, or is installed on the M66 ring mount of several types of combat vehicles. The M48 is capable of firing automatic only and is mounted on the M1, M1A1, or M1A2 Abrams main battle tank commanders station. The M2A1 provides system upgrades to the M2 making it easier and safer to employ. The M2A1 includes new features and design improvements consisting of a modified barrel, barrel extension, barrel support, barrel handle, flash suppressor, and a fixed headspace and timing configuration. General Dynamics
Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS) developed the Technical Data Package (TDP) and has a licensing agreement with the US
Government that permits the use of the contractors proprietary TDP to acquire further M2A1s from any source, provided the
Government satisfies the General Purpose License Rights (GPLR) agreement requirements. The US Government has fulfilled its legal obligations and has the rights to utilize GDOTSs proprietary TDP from any source via contractual vehicle.
