USEB132001 Repair Water Mains & Roads, Mustang Lane & North Loop 7/17/2019
Environmental Concerns
SOIL
• Soil cannot be used as fill elsewhere. It will either be returned to original site or sampled and disposed at approved landfill
• Soil would be disposed as non‐hazardous waste due to LUST site exemption found in 40 CFR 261.4(b)10 [Option] o For the Wasatch Regional Landfill, a sample must be taken and waste profiled (expect 3 day turnaround for lab and profiling before disposal); landfill can provide rolloff container at cost;
estimate disposal at $40/ton o Landfill Profile: Richard McMullin 801‐253‐1111 RMcMullin@republicservices.com o Lab: American West Analytical Services 801‐263‐8686 TCLP Metals, TCLP Volatile, TCLP
Semivolatile (confirm these with McMullin)
WATER
• Any water removed from the site (from rising ground water) must be containerized; it could either be returned to site by permit or sampled and disposed off site o Permit: Contact DEQ, Hillary Mason 801‐536‐4162 for initial assistance https://deq.utah.gov/legacy/programs/water‐quality/ground‐water/permits/index.htm#cuicp [Option] o Dispose of water with ET Technologies
KNOWN CONTAINMANTION ZONE
• Workers must be notified of contaminated soil and groundwater:
o Ground water only: (Vinyl Chloride) (TCE) (Cis‐1,2‐DCE) (1,1‐DCE) o Soil & GW: (Benzene) (TPH‐G) (TPH‐D)
• See maps of IRP zones
• See map of IRP wells; well integrity must be preserved for seven known wells. Nine wells are expected in the zone. Two wells have not been located (ANGMW16‐B & ANGMW16‐C). If located, properly abandon wells.

PIPE MATERIAL IN CONTAMINATION ZONE
• Drinking Water standards apply; Utah Administrative Code R309‐550‐5(10); SLC public utilities does not use PVC in contaminated soil. Similar sites have used a ductile iron pipe with nitrite gaskets, wrapped in a plastic corrosion blanket and surrounded with flowable fill in the areas with petroleum impacts. Another site used a prestressed concrete for a 36‐inch water main. Other options may exist; contractor to verify https://rules.utah.gov/publicat/code/r309/r309‐550.htm
DESIGN REVIEW
Final designs will be sent for review to the Utah DEQ Division of Water Quality per rules as a Non‐ Transient, Non‐Community Public Water System.
