About this file

This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document for the detonator, electric item, with CDDE ID 98747 and SPI number F01-463-3341.

The document provides detailed military preservation, packing, and marking requirements for shipping detonators in compliance with MIL-STD-2073 for military preservation and MIL-STD-129 for marking. Packing specifications are defined at two levels: Level A uses ASTM D6251 standards with RSC style containers, while Level B uses ASTM D5118 standards. Level A containers measure 10 inches in length and width with unspecified depth; Level B containers are 10 3/8 inches by 10 3/8 inches by 16 3/4 inches. Gross weights are specified as approximately 1.043 cubic feet for Level A and 10 cubic feet for Level B, with design fragility ratings of 80 for both levels. Individual items vary in dimensions and weight. Proper shipping requires wrapping items with tape (ASTM D5486 Type I or V), placing wrapped items in barrier bags (MIL-DTL-117 Type I), using cushioning material (A-A-1898), and sealing in shipping containers (ASTM D5118 RSC, V3c) with strapping (MIL-PRF-81705 Type I). The instruction mandates compliance with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15) for wood packaging material, requiring all wooden components to be debarked and heat-treated to 56 degrees Centigrade or 133 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes with certification from an accredited agency. Munition notices address Class I explosive materials, hazard classification requirements, and provisions for previous packaging editions. Up to ten bagged items may be placed in a single shipping container. The document includes an exploded assembly diagram and a palletization procedure for Level B packs showing strapping, edge protectors, and pallet configuration specifications with total weight calculations of 483.35 pounds per pallet.
