Project: EOU - Steam Central Plant Surge & Deaerator Tank Replacement

Date: April 8, 2022

This addendum forms a part of the Contract Documents and modifies the original Bidding Documents dated March 16, 2022 as noted below. Acknowledge receipt of this addendum in the space provided on the Bid Form. Failure to do so may subject the Bidder to disqualification.

Contractor Questions

Q1. Not clear if Deaerator manufacturer needs to provide controls, VFDs, and level transmitters.

These are shown out of packaged skid scope (per M611 DRAWINGS pg11).

A. Refer to revised specification section and schematic diagrams in this addendum for manufacturer provided controls.

Q2. Did engineer include section 23 50 11? I do not see it in the 217 page "project manual." It should be before page 187/217 but is not.

A. Refer to revised specification section provided in this addendum.

Q3. I see cold makeup going to the surge (per M611 DRAWINGS pg11. Can you confirm if its ok piping cold makeup directly to the deaerator in lieu of the surge tank? This will help keep costs down as we won’t have to have a stainless-steel surge tank, in the past we have had issues with cold water makeup in the surge tank causing corrosion and we would add liners or change material we used for a tank.

A. No, makeup water should be piped as indicated in drawings. Stainless-steel surge tank construction is required.

Q4. A discussion was had at the pre-bid walkthrough regarding temporary operating conditions.

I do not see any reference to this in Addenda #1. Will there be instructions regarding the temporary operations issued?

A. Refer to revised specification section provided in this addendum.

Q5. What is the maximum operating steam pressure of the boiler system? It was mentioned in the walkthrough that it was 30 psi at the highest.

A. Boiler system operates between 25-35 psi; however, all safety valves on the boiler are set at 75 psi, which dictates the operating pressure of the pumps according to https://www.systemswestengineers.com/

Addendum No. 2, X033.01 2

ASME Section 1. Operating pressure of the pumps must exceed the operating pressure of the safety relief valves in addition to any piping pressure losses.

Q6. If the maximum boiler operating pressure is 30 psi, does the required head of the boiler feed pumps need to be 250 feet?

A. Refer to Q5 response.

Q7. What is the communications protocol that will be used by the Deaerator (BacNet IP, Metasys, etc.)?

A. Refer to revised specification sections provided in this addendum. Contractor to coordinate controls requirements with campus JCI Metasys system.

Q8. Is it acceptable to use the Industrial Steam Spray Flow ii system instead of separate tanks as shown in the attached Brochure? The advantages are listed on page 2 of the Brochure.

A. No, product does not meet specification requirements, including tank construction and surge capacity.
