• Daylight: The Diagnostic and Treatment Building (D&T) is actually a series of four buildings (D/E/F/G) connected by corridors through a set of internal courtyards. These courtyards bring daylight into what would otherwise be a very dense building.
• Concourse Access and Functional organization: The first, second and third floors of the concourse serve as access points for the key public and patient focused services within this set of buildings. The fourth floor is exclusively dedicated to support functions and is connected to the staff-only fourth floor Concourse.
• Emergency Department: The Emergency Department is located on the second level for safety and security reasons. Ambulances access the department via a dedicated ramp and patients park in dedicated surface parking. There are three main zones of activity in the ED – acute care, fast track and observation beds.
• Imaging and nuclear Imaging: Directly adjacent to the ED is all of imaging and other non-invasive diagnostics, including cardiac echo and stress testing. Inpatients and outpatients access these services from different routes so they typically do not cross paths. Services include: CT, Radiology, ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Stress Testing, Cardiac Echo and
PET.
• The Intervention Center standardizes all procedure based services. The suite integrates surgical, cardiology, invasive radiology and digestive disease patient care procedures. This consolidation allows for shared resources, promotes standard best practices and allows for future flexibility.
• Support Services, including Clinical Laboratory/Pathology, Sterile Processing Service, Inpatient Pharmacy, Food/Nutrition Services and others are co-located on the staff-only floor providing a back of house material transport to all buildings along the concourse. This level connects to the service center in the Central Energy Plant Building.
