2.5.1 RT1/RT1T Hood with Inner Bib
The RT1/RT1T hood is held in place by an inflatable neck cuff which fits under the wearer’s chin. This prevents the hood from rising upwards when supplied with breathing air. Breathing air is supplied from a breathing tube connected to the back of the hood and the air is routed through overhead channels that deliver the air down across the lens of the hood.
The RT1/RT1T hood cape has straps that are placed under the wearer's arms and held in place by Velcro® to help hold the cape close to the wearer's body.
2.5.2 RT3/RT3T Hood with Inner Bib
The RT3/RT3T hood has a sportneck collar made from a soft nylon material. Breathing air is supplied from a breathing tube connected to the back of the hood and the air is routed through overhead channels that deliver the air down across the lens of the hood.
The RT3/RT3T hood also has an adjustable Velcro® strap in the hood to help shape the hood for better comfort. The RT3/RT3T hood cape also has straps that are placed under the wearer's arms and held in place by Velcro® to help hold the cape close to the wearer's body.
NOTE
The Bullard EVA PAPR with RT3 and RT3T hood does not permit the use of a hardhat.
Only the Bullard EVA PAPR with the 20TICH and 20TICHT hood is designed for use with a hardhat.
2.5.3 20TICH and 20TICHT Hood with inner Bib for Use with Head Protection
The 20TICH and 20TICHT must be worn with a Bullard hardhat. Only Bullard hardhats 3000WHT, 3000RWHT, 5100WHT, 5100RWHT or manufacturer approved equal are NIOSH approved for use with the EVA PAPR with the 20TICH and 20TICHT Hood. Breathing air is supplied from the breathing tube connected to the back of the hood and the air is routed through a sewn-in elastic channel.
2.5.4 20TIC and 20TICT Hood with Headband and Inner Bib
The 20TIC and 20TICT hood must be worn with an integral suspension for stability. Breathing air is supplied from the breathing tube connected to the back of the hood and air is routed through a sewn-in elastic channel.

2.6 General Battery Guidelines
1. Bullard EVA PAPR battery packs are durable Lithium Polymer rechargeable batteries designed to deliver consistent power over a long life. The life of the Bullard battery pack will be significantly reduced when they are exposed to high heat over an extended period of time. To maximize battery life, these maintenance guidelines should be followed:
A. The battery should be removed from the blower unit when not in use.
Battery loses 8.3% of its life if stored in the blower.
B. Charge the battery before it is completely discharged. The low battery alarm indicates that the battery needs to be charged. It will not allow the battery to be discharged below a safe voltage for the cells. The six-port Evolutionary Air Gang Charger (EVAGC) can charge six batteries in four hours. The EVAGC charge is a trickle charger meaning the batteries may stay in the gang charger once fully charged.
C. Charge the batteries at room temperature or cooler. At higher temperatures, the battery pack may not accept a full charge. If the battery pack feels hot, let it cool for 30 minutes before charging.
D. Without periodic charging, the Lithium Polymer battery loses less than .5% of its charge each day. Allowing a battery to self-discharge during extended storage will not harm the battery pack. Discharging and re-charging the battery fully at least once every three months is suggested to ensure the longest possible life of the battery.
2.6.1 Disposal
1. Damaged or worn-out batteries should be disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations at an approved hazardous waste recycling or disposal facility. Contact General Certification Official (GCO) for disposal requirements.
2. New EVA batteries are evaluated after 18 months. Therefore EVA batteries are to be returned to the REF for re-evaluation every 12 months.

2.7 Checking Bullard Batteries on the EVA Evolutionary Air EVAluator
1. Key status EVAluator Criteria
Voltage: Approximately 16800 mV
Current: Charge is displayed if the battery is charging. 0 mA will be displayed if battery is not charging
Max Error: 2%
Absolute Charge: 95% or greater is acceptable
Fuel Gauge: Max 6300 mAh. Anything over 5985 mAh with an absolute charge of 95% or greater Is acceptable
2. Battery evaluation shall be performed on all Bullard batteries prior to being placed into service. Batteries shall meet the acceptance criteria listed above.
New batteries shall expire 18 months from initial evaluation and thereafter batteries shall be re-evaluated annually.
3.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
1. When using hand tools such as a screwdriver, wear a leather or puncture resistant glove on the hand opposite of the hand holding the tool.
2. The use of substitute parts or altering the respirators voids NIOSH certification. Approved spare parts from the manufacturer of the respirator being repaired must be used to maintain NIOSH certification of respirators.
3. Wear Hyflex, or equivalent, palm coated gloves to tighten hose clamps and filters.
4. Wear cut resistant gloves when using manual cutting tools such as a knife, box cutter.
5. All cutting tools (scissors) shall have cover or retractable blades when stored and not in use.
6. Control materials during work activities to avoid slipping/tripping hazards.
7. When examining the hoods while inflated, small pinholes may be observed in the stitched areas of the hoods, where during the sewing process, the sewing machine double stitched. These pinholes are expected. Large pinholes;
more than three stitches, in the stitched areas, are NOT acceptable and the hood shall be rejected for return to the supplier.
8. Reuse of Bullard hoods or breathing tubes must be approved by facility Radiological Protection (RP)/IH.
