Figure 6: Drawing Tree Example
The second sheet of the Drawing Tree, as depicted in Figure 7, lists the Installation Drawings under the Arrangement drawing.
Figure 7: Drawing Tree Sheet 2
2.3 FUNCTIONAL BLOCK DIAGRAM
The Function Interface Diagram (FID) identifies the interfacing between components. This is a quick reference document that only lists interfaces once. For example, if equipment A has three separate cables connecting to equipment B, only one line would depict the three separate connections. Dashed lines are placed around the functional group of equipment to identify the subsystem to which the piece of equipment is assigned. All equipment shall be identified by its drawing nomenclature, acronym in parenthesis, and configuration number (######-## where the first six digits are the drawing number and the last two digits are the configuration number beginning with 01) as demonstrated in Figure 8.
ROUTER
(RTR)
Figure 8: Equipment Identification
2.4 INTERCONNECTION DIAGRAM
The Interconnection Diagram, commonly referred to as a Block Wire Diagram (BWD), is a drawing listing all interfaces between equipment and identifies the cables and adapters used as the interface.
Systems shall be separated to individual sheets or in instances in which a system is too larger or complex for one sheet, multiple sheets. All equipment shall be identified by its drawing nomenclature, acronym in parenthesis, and configuration number (see Figure 8 above) and identify ports that interface to other equipment. Cables shall be identified by a configuration number listed in close proximity to the middle of the cable so it is easy to read. Cable ends shall also be identified. For items too small to list the equipment identification or for crowded areas where it is difficult to list the cable configuration number, leaders may be drawn to the item and called out in that manner following the same guidelines as listed above.
For interfaces that span multiple systems, a dashed box shall be placed around the component that is not assigned to the system on the active sheet. A flag note shall be placed next to the dashed box and a note shall be listed on the first sheet identifying the system that includes the component and the sheet on which the component is located.
Interconnection Diagrams/Block Wire Diagram Drawings shall list the standard note identified in Section 2.1, Notes, with the addition of the following two notes:
2. DEPICTIONS OF CONNECTIONS AND THEIR POSITION ON EACH DEVICE ARE
FOR ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY IN THESE DRAWINGS. PHYSICAL
LAYOUT MAY VARY.
3. CABLES WITH THE FOLLOWING NUMBER (531### - 532###) ARE
FABRICATED CABLES.
For Note 3, 531### - 531### is the assigned range of fabricated cable drawing numbers.
2.5 ARRANGEMENT DRAWINGS
The purpose of the Arrangement Drawing is to identify all critical components and associate their physical location in the vehicle with their parent system. This drawing shall have a parts list on the first sheet listing all the systems that make up the vehicle. All equipment shall be identified in parenthesis with the drawing name, followed by the acronym in parentheses, the item’s configuration, and the associated system.
(ROUTER, (RTR), ######-##, P/O ITEM x)
In the above example, ROUTER is the drawing name, RTR is the assigned acronym, ######-## is the item’s configuration number, and x is the item number from the parts list.
2.6 INSTALLATION DRAWINGS
The purpose of the Installation Drawings is to provide all the information required to install a system.
These drawings shall be separated into systems and include the components that make up the system, cables that connect the system, any adapters used to connect within the system, metal brackets used to constrain equipment and hardware used to mount equipment, cables, and metal brackets. A parts list shall be located on the first sheet that lists the item number, quantity, nomenclature or description, specification, part number or identifying number and cage code. All items identified in the above description shall be listed in the parts list.
Section cuts and detailed bubbles shall be used to identify views providing clarity to call out items listed in the parts list. Items in the parts list shall only be called out once in the drawing with a bubble callout.
Any need to identify items after calling them out with a find number (in a bubble) shall be referenced with its item number written in parentheses, i.e. (ITEM 3). Items that require identification that do not belong to the system being installed (i.e., cross system interface) shall be identified as shown in Figure 8.
Cable routes are identified in installation drawings. Cable lines represent cable centerline and shall not be scaled. Line weights are listed in Appendix 1. When cables are routed behind objects in the drawing view, the cable shall be depicted as a hidden line. In cases where a cable routing routes into or out of the plane of the drawing, symbols may be used to depict these routes. The symbol indicates the cable is routing into the plane of the drawing. The symbol indicates the cable is routing out of the plane of the drawing.
Installation Drawings shall list the standard notes identified in Section 2.1, Notes, with the addition of the following notes:
3. SYMBOL DENOTES CABLE ROUTED INTO THE PLANE OF THE DRAWING.
SYMBOL DENOTES CABLE ROUTED OUT OF THE PLANE OF THE DRAWING.
4. SEE DRAWING [INSERT DRAWING NUMBER] FOR BLOCK WIRING DIAGRAM TO DETERMINE
PORT CONNECTIONS FOR CABLES.
5. SEE DRAWING [INSERT DRAWING NUMBER] FOR VEHICLE MODIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.
6. SEE DRAWING [INSERT DRAWING NUMBER] FOR POWER COMPONENT INSTALLATION.
7. SEE DRAWING [INSERT DRAWING NUMBER] FOR POWER BLOCK WIRE DIAGRAM.
*NOTE: Note 5 is not applicable for vehicle supplier drawings.
2.7 ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS
Assembly Drawings depict the assembling of components. The parts list on the first sheet shall identify all components required to build the assembly. Assembly Drawings may be used to create a subassembly that may be too complicated to call out in an Installation Drawing. When identifying the Assembly Drawing in an Installation Drawing, only identify the Assembly Drawing number and not the subassembly components.
2.8 CABLE ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS
Cable Assembly Drawings provide fabrication details to build and assemble cable assemblies. The parts list shall identify all components required to build the assembly. A wiring diagram shall be located in the bottom left corner of the drawing directly above the export statement. The wiring diagram shall identify the pin out of the cable including connector pin identifications, cable or wire color and identify the ends of the cable. Cable Assembly Drawings require a different tolerance block than metal fabrications.
Figure 9 defines the cable assembly tolerances.
Figure 9: Cable Assembly Tolerances
All cables require labeling. Cables greater than 36.00” in length shall be labeled with four labels while cables less than 36.00” in length (with the exception of patch cables; explained later in this section) shall be labeled with three labels.
Cables 36.00” OR Greater in Length
These cables will have four labels. Two labels 1.00” from each end of the cable the label is identifying and two labels 6.00” from the end of the cable the label is identifying. The labels shall be depicted on the cable drawing and reference a six-column table describing the verbiage printed on the label. If a cable has more than two ends, labels shall be included 1.00” from each end of the cable identifying the P# of the end of the cable and the cable configuration number. The label normally placed 6.00” from the ends of a two-ended cable shall be placed at the discretion of the engineer. Additional columns shall be added to the label table to account for cables with more than two ends. More information on the label table will be provided later in this section.
Cables Less Than 36.00” in Length
These cables shall have three labels. Two labels 1.00” from each end of the cable the label is identifying and one label at a defined distance (x = the midpoint of the cable). The labels shall be depicted on the cable drawing and reference a six-column table describing the verbiage printed on the label. More information on the label table will be provided later in this section. In drawings where greater than and less than 36.00” cables are depicted, “-” shall populate the label fields that are not applicable to the less than 36.00” cables.
Label Tables
Label Tables shall list the Configuration Number of the cable, Length L (overall length), Length X (length from P1 to the midpoint of cable) for cables less than 36”, and all applicable cable labels. Cables 36” in length and greater with two ends, Labels 1 and 4 identify P1 with the Configuration Number and P2 with the Configuration Number respectively, Label 2 identifies the cable routing from P1 to P2, and Label 3 identifies the cable routing from P2 to P1 (Reference Figure 10). On cables less than 36.00”, Labels 1 and 3 identify P1with the Configuration Number and P2 with the Configuration Number respectively, and Label 2 identifies the cable routing from P1 to P2 for non-patching cables and the cable name for patching cables (Reference Figure 11).
Figure 10: Label table for cables greater than 36"
Figure 11: Label table for cables less than 36"
For Labels 2 and 3 on cables greater than 36.00” and Label 2 on non-patching cables less than 36.00”, the component acronyms, ports, and unique cable number shall be identified by the following standard:
Label 2 = MCV-CMP1-W###-PORT1-CMP2-W###-PORT2
Label 3 = MCV -CMP2-W###-PORT2-CMP1-W###-PORT1
MCV represents the vehicle project acronym, CMP1 represents the acronym of the component on the P1 end of the cable, W### represents the unique cable number starting with a “W”, PORT1 represents the port the P1 end of the cable is connected to, CMP2 represents the acronym of the component on the P2 end of the cable, and PORT2 represents the port that the P2 end of the cable is connected.
Cables shall be colored to represent their classification level as designated by the MCV Chief Engineer.
For drawings that list multiple classifications of cables, all parts shall be listed in the parts list and identified in a configuration table. This table shall list the Configuration Number and Item Numbers that make up the configuration. For COTS cables that do not correctly represent the classification colors, colored vinyl tape shall cover 3.00” of the cable at each end to identify its classification.
Cable Assembly Drawings shall list the standard notes identified in Section 2.1, Notes. Additional notes may be required based on the configuration of the cable. If the cable has multiple conductors, use Note 3A, if the cable is a single conductor cable, use Note 3B.
