About this file

This is an Appendix A to a federal contract specification for the design, fabrication, and installation of a mezzanine structure at Pittsburgh Air National Guard Base (ANGB), Building 110. The specification was prepared by Josh Payne (Project Engineer) and reviewed by James Rowland (Reviewer) from AFLCMC/EZPAE, dated December 17, 2025, under Contract Number FA860426RB011.

The mezzanine shall provide elevated storage space within Building 110 and interface with on-site forklifts and pallet jacks. The structure must support a minimum capacity of 125 pounds per square foot (uniformly distributed) without permanent deflection or deformation and comply with specifications detailed in Air Force Drawings NPT501-01 and NPT501-02. Key structural components include: cold-formed structural steel columns (minimum 6-inch by 6-inch x 3/16 inch thick, meeting ASTM A500 Grade B, FY-46KSI); base plates (minimum 10-inch by 10-inch x 5/8-inch, ASTM A36); structural steel framing (beams and joists prepunched for A325 bolt connections); metal roof decking with composite flooring (minimum ¾ inch thick Resindek or equivalent); 36-inch-wide stairs with closed diamond plate tread and safety yellow paint; railings designed to OSHA 1910.23 standards (42 inches high, minimum 1-1/2 inch schedule 40 steel tubing, supporting 200-pound loads); kickplates (minimum 4 inches high); pallet gates with 72-inch minimum openings; and LED lighting underneath with 50 foot-candles minimum illuminance. The mezzanine must be freestanding, pre-engineered to eliminate on-site welding, and designed to withstand seismic forces per International Building Code for Pittsburgh, PA and DOD regulation UFC 3-310-04. A wet-pipe sprinkler system must be installed per NFPA guidelines with design sealed by a Pennsylvania-registered Professional Engineer. Quality assurance includes system inspection and two tests: load capacity testing (maximum loads placed for four hours with examination for deformation) and lighting verification (minimum 50 foot-candles at 30 inches above floor).
