Ensure all doors and hatches are closed and remain closed during surface preparation and preservation operations. Install containments to maintain environmental controls and to capture 100 percent of surface preparation and preservation products and contaminants.

3.3.1 Accomplish a joint visual inspection of containments and protective coverings installed in 3.3 prior to start of each contamination-producing operation.

3.3.2 Submit one legible copy, in hard copy or approved

transferrable media, of a report listing results of the requirements of 3.3 and 3.3.1 to the SUPERVISOR.

3.3.3 Construct enclosures and containments to prevent cross

3.3.4 NNSY will install, maintain and remove FME protection at pipe openings. Contractor must cover/protect NNSY installed FME protection at pipe openings.

(I)(G) "DAILY CONTAINMENT AND CLEANLINESS INSPECTION"

3.4 Accomplish joint visual containment, FME protection, blast and paint protection inspections and cleanliness inspections daily prior to each shift in which contamination-producing operations will be accomplished.

Contractor must receive all removed appendages from NNSY, via the SUPERVISOR, prior to start of surface prep operations of this Work Item. Surface preparation and preservation for removed appendages must be in accordance with 009-32 of 2.1.

3.6.2 Document hard to reach areas where utilizing power or hand tools on Quality Assurance (QA) inspection forms. Areas must not be deemed hard to reach or inaccessible until agreed upon with the SUPERVISOR. Blasters must secure and tie-off blast hoses when not in use.

3.6.4 Accomplish hand tool cleaning (SSPC-SP 2 of 2.2) or brush blasting (SSPC-SP 16 of 2.2) of piping and cable pans to remove deteriorated paint and loose deposits. Non-ferrous piping and cable pans, which are to be preserved shipboard, must be prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP 2 or SSPC-SP 16 of 2.2. For painted non-ferrous piping and cable pans in tanks of nuclear powered ships, surface preparation must be in accordance with SSPC-SP 16 of 2.2.

Non-ferrous piping one inch in diameter or less must not be prepared or painted except as listed above (e.g., remove loose or flaking paint). Use caution to prevent damage to pipe wall thickness and cable pans. Surface profile is not required. No loose flaking paint is allowed.

3.6.5 Tightly adherent paint within one inch of dampening and acoustic tiles does not have to be removed if the paint is in good condition (i.e., no blistering, delamination, or evidence of failure). The edges of existing tightly adherent paint must be mechanically feathered (e.g., rotary power sanding) to a tapering edge so the junction of the old paint and new paint has as natural appearance as possible. The surface of the existing paint must be roughened or lightly abraded to ensure proper adhesion of the new paint.

3.6.5.1 Contractor must not accomplish abrasive blasting within

one inch of damping tiles to prevent accidental damage of damping tiles.

3.6.5.2 Tightly adherent paint is defined as having sufficient adhesion so that it cannot be lifted with a dull putty knife.

3.6.6 Non-steel damping and acoustic restrainer covers are not required to be painted. Accidental overspray is acceptable. Full paint out of dampening and acoustic restraining cover non-ferrous fasteners is not intended. All ferrous fasteners must be mechanically or hand tooled prepared and painted.
