About this file
This is a Summary of Work section from a federal construction specification for Building 114 at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division in Newport, Rhode Island.
The base bid work requires removal and disposal of an existing 3-ton overhead electric traveling bridge crane (Crane 64) and installation of one new 3-ton overhead electric traveling (OET) bridge crane configured as a top-running bridge with an under-running trolley hoist. The existing W12x crane rail beams shall be retained for reuse, and the new crane's maximum self-weight must not exceed that of the existing crane. The existing crane rails and conductor system shall be replaced with new infrastructure to accommodate two cranes operating on the same rail system. The existing electric power feed shall be replaced with upgraded power sufficient to operate two new 3-ton OET cranes on a common conductor system. Bid Option 1 requires provision of a second new 3-ton overhead electric traveling bridge crane (Crane 2) operating on the same rail system as the base bid crane, including anti-collision sensor systems equipped on each crane to maintain a minimum safe distance between them during simultaneous operation.
The contractor must submit a salvage plan for government approval and coordinate with the Contracting Officer regarding work sequence, material storage, and access arrangements. Building 114 will remain occupied during work performance. The contractor shall notify the Naval Station Newport Public Works Department and local utility locating services at least 10 days prior to excavation. All salvaged materials designated by the Contracting Officer remain government property and must be stored within 5 miles of the construction site with property control records maintained throughout.
