1.0 ABSTRACT:

1.1 This item describes fabricating and installing spool pieces in the inlet and outlet of the seawater piping and installing lug type butterfly valves.

3.2.1 All components and piping shall be rated for use in the applicable systems with the design characteristics as per Reference 2.1.1 and 2.1.2.

3.2.2 Quantities provided in the List of Materials are considered estimates. The Contractor shall provide these quantities and reasonable additional material in order to install a fully functional system that meets the requirements of this specification.

a. Items listed under 4.2 has been procured by the Government and is not required to be procured by the Contractor.

3.2.3 Additional material/components necessary to accomplish work required by this work item, such as hangers, weld material, etc. are not included below, and shall be provided by the Contractor.

4.2.1 This GFM is listed as CFM in Reference 2.1.2, and not required to be procured by the Contractor.

4.3 Government Furnished Services: None.

5.0 NOTES:

5.1 The Contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this Work Item. In performance of this Work Item, the Contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier shall comply with the requirements of all applicable GTR’s.

5.2 The contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier, are advised to review other Work Items under this contract, to determine their effect on the work required under this work item.

5.3 THIS SHIP CONTAINS HIGH VOLTAGE (HV) ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. OBEY ALL POSTED AND VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING SAFETY AND EXCLUSION FROM HIGH VOLTAGE AREAS. AT NO TIME APPROACH, WORK ON, OR ENTER A HIGH VOLTAGE AREA WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION.

5.4 THE T-AKE CLASS ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK, AND WHITE. TASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE ENERGIZED UNTIL TESTED AND PROVEN OTHERWISE. TEST ALL ELECRTICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DE-ENGERIZED PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.

5.5 Materials not listed as Government Furnished (GFM) shall be furnished by the Contractor. The Contractor shall provide all labor and material required to accomplish this work item including but not limited to staging, space certification contamination containment, full penetration welds, firewatches, removal and reinstallation of all interferences including insulation in way of repairs to effect a complete and finished end result.

6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS:

6.1 Accomplish all work to satisfaction of the MSCREP and in accordance with current Regulatory Body rules and regulations.

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED:

7.1 Central Seawater Piping Repair:

7.1.1 Isolate, drain, and tag out the portion of the Central Seawater System being repaired using MSC approved tag out procedures.

7.1.2 Remove insulation in area to be worked.

7.1.3 The location of the repair is in the Central Seawater piping between LTFW cooler No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. See enclosure 1.

7.1.4 The piping is 10" and 20” CUNI for discharge and 20” CUNI for suction, use reference 2.1.2. as guidance.

7.1.5 Unbolt and remove valves listed in the bill of materials from the piping system.

7.1.6 Cut and remove an approximate 5' section of piping from pipe 250SW02-10 and 250SW02-028. This should include both existing Vanstone flanges for valve SW-V-30 and SW-V-42 and both flanges for orifice SW-OR-3 and SW-OR-10. The same shall apply for LT FW Cooler No. 2 and No. 3 in the same locations. Use Enclosure 1 as guidance.

7.1.7 Install and fit-up new section of piping for 250SW02-010, 250SW02-028, 250SW02-09, 250SW02-029, 250SW02-08, and 250SW02-30. The piping shall be installed with socket welded flanges called out in the Bill of Materials to replace the existing Vanstone flanges.

7.1.8 Cut and remove an approximate 2’ section of piping between SW-V-28 and SW-V-27 from the suction and discharge which includes removing both Vanstone flanges up to the cooler. The same shall apply for LT FW Cooler No. 2 and No. 3 in the same locations.

a. Procure and install new temperature gauge and drain lines. Use reference 2.1.1 as guidance. For estimation purposes, procure 3 temperature gauges, 6 drain line with valves. Contractor shall shipcheck to verify correct size and type before procurement.

7.1.9 Install and fit-up new section of piping for 20” piping using 2.1.2 as guidance. The piping shall be installed with socket welded flanges called out in the Bill of Materials to replace the existing Vanstone flanges.

7.1.10 The internal walls of the new and original piping systems shall be coated with Enecon CeramAlloy CL+AC or other manufacturer’s equal product, using reference 2.1.2 as guidance.

a. Provide an approved certified representative by Enecon to apply coating.

b. Follow Enecon approved procedure for blasting and prepping inner pipe walls before application of CeramAlloy CL+AC.

7.1.11 Install new Lugged-type 10" butterfly valves for SW-V-30, and SW-V-42. The same shall apply for LT FW Cooler No. 2 and No. 3 in the same locations.

7.1.12 Install new Lugged-type 20” butterfly valve for SW-V-27, SW-V-28 and SW-V-29. The same shall apply for LT FW Cooler No. 2 and No. 3 in the same locations.

7.1.13 Remove the Vanstone flanges and replace with socket weld flanges for all valves listed in the bill of material.

7.1.14 New Gaskets shall be provided with all new joint make up.

7.1.15 Provide new fasteners as required to make up new flanges.

a. Anti-seize compound shall be applied to prevent future seizure of nuts/studs.

7.1.16 Dispose of all piping and butterfly valves being repaired and replaced, no items shall be left for ship’s force for disposal.

7.2 Preparation of Drawings/Documents:

7.2.1 Provide As-builts based off reference 2.1.1 and 2.1.2.

a. As-builts shall be provided in AutoCAD and PDF (electronic format).

7.3 Testing/Inspection:

7.3.1 Shop Test:

a. Perform Hydrostatic test of each NEW Saltwater Butterfly Valves to 100PSI, both sides.

b. Perform seat leak test of each NEW Saltwater Butterfly Valves to 65PSI. No leaks allowed.

c. Perform Hydrostatic test of each NEW Spool piece piping section. Test shall be performed to 100 PSI for 10 minutes. No Leaks allowed. Ships Force and/or MSFSC Rep shall witness.

7.3.2 Shipboard Testing:

a. Perform Hydrostatic leak test of new piping. Test shall be performed to system pressure.

7.3.3 Inspection and acceptance of work shall be by the MSCREP and ABS Surveyor.

7.3.4 The Contractor’s quality assurance plan shall be invoked for all aspects of this Work Item.

7.4 Painting/Insulation:

7.4.1 Clean and prepare the disturbed areas and apply a primer and two topcoats of paint to all areas disturbed to match the surrounding areas per MSC GTR 7.

7.4.2 Renew all insulation removed to perform repairs per MSC GTR 22.

7.5 Markings:

7.5.1 Reinstall or replace name plates for all effected butterfly valves and to stencil flow direction per MSC GTR 29 for repaired piping.

7.6 Manufacturer’s Representative:

7.6.1 Provide Enecon Tech Rep to ensure proper application of coating for Central Seawater Piping system.

8.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: None additional.
