SCOPE

General.

This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the efforts the Contractor will complete during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Phase for the Laser Eye Protection (LEP) Threat Spectacle Program and under options for delivery of Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) and Full Rate Production (FRP) units.

This SOW defines work required of the Contractor for design, development, test and evaluation, and production of the LEP Threat Spectacles, Prescription (Rx) component, and protective carrying case. Specific tasks include program management, configuration management, systems engineering, test and evaluation, data management, logistics, and production.

Background.

The purpose of LEP is to reduce the possibility of damage to the eye from a variety of laser threats. Threats to aircrew come from both unfriendly and unintentional friendly sources. Aircraft and pilot lasing incidents are increasing, with the majority of the incidents occurring at night during aircraft takeoff and landing. The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), PMA202, has been tasked to design, produce and deploy a multiple wavelength spectacle to address the needs of fixed wing, rotary wing and tilt rotor aircrew in fixed multiple wavelength laser threat environments. The tasking includes the production and deployment of an Rx component and protective carrying case.
