85Specification2.2.2 Other Government Documents, Drawings, and PublicationsDrawing 13053216 Thermal Sensor Mount and WWWWW Display Mount does not match the drawing numbers in paragraphs 3.3.2.1 Thermal Sight Mounting and 3.3.2.2 Color Day Camera Mounting which are drawing (13053126) and drawing (13052895).The document list has been updated. The documents/drawings will be provided upon request once the RFP is released. Paragraph 3.3.2.1 has been rewritten to read; "The thermal sight shall be mounted on the equilibrator bracket (drawing 13052895) of the SCWS." Paragraph 3.3.2.2 has been rewritten to read; "The color day camera/bracket shall be mounted on cradle axel (drawing 13048684). The cradle axel mounts to the sensor interface, which is the responsibility of the Government. The sensor interface drawing (13048674) is provided for information. A Government design that mounts to the cradle axel is provided for informational purposes, drawing (13048670)."
86Specification3.1 Item DefinitionIf weight is added to weapon it will have an impact to stabilization performance.Noted.
87Specification3.2.1.10.1 50cal reticle NFOVWhat are the reticle line thicknesses? What are the font type and font size for the numbers? At the postaward conference, PdM Tanks will provide the reticle line thickness and font type/size for the numbers.
88Specification3.2.1.10.2 M240 reticle NFOVWhat are the reticle line thicknesses? What are the font type and font size for the numbers? The specification has been updated to call out the reticle line thickness is 2 pixels. Font type is Arial. Font size is 1.67 mil high.
89Specification3.2.1.10.3 Wide Field of View ReticleNote 3. is missing the second dimension "… the center box shall be 1 mil by ???? mil…"
A field of view of 15 degrees has about 266 mils. The display is 1024 x 768 so it may be difficult to meet the tolerance of the reticle line width of "+/- 0.10 mrad" since for a field of view of 15° a display pixel represents 1/(1024pixels/266mils)= 0.2598 mils/pixel.Note 3 of Figure 5 in paragraph 3.2.1.10.3 has been changed to read ; "the center box shall be 2 pixels by 2 pixels. The figure has been update to show a 2 x 2 pixel box.
90Specification3.2.1.11 Operator controlsIs there a control for reticle brightness or only reticle color? Does the reticle ever have to be completely turned off?Reticle Color/Brightness is adjusted using a menu function. A new paragraph has been added to the specification to address reticle brightness and to state the reticle shall never be completely turned off.
91Specification3.2.1.14
The document does not reference NVIS compatibility. There is no requirement for NVIS compatability.
92Specification3.2.1.2 Target Acquisition RangesSuggestion: Add which analysis package and version year that is to be used to 3.2.1.2.1 i.e. NVThermIP 2006 and likewise to 3.2.1.2.2 i.e. SSCamIP 2006.

For the larger delta T of 3.5°C outside the temperature range, does the scene contrast range have to increase to 3X 3.5°C to 10.5°C?

Subparagraphs 3.2.1.2.1 (a) and (d) have the scene contrast temperature called out as 3.75 °C or 3.75K.

What are the viewing distance from the display and the minimum display parameters? The package is NV-IPM version 1.1. The note section of the paragraph has been rewritten to eliminate the 3.75K reference and call out a higher scene contrast value (5.5 C) when you are outside the -10 C to +45 C temperature range. Paragraph 4.2.1.2 now calls out the NV-IPM version. The viewing distance in the specification is now defined as between 3 to 19 inches. The offeror shall optimize the viewing distance from the display for their specific application as long as the viewing distance does not go outside this range.
93Specification3.2.1.3 Tracer VisibilityAssume the common ranges for tracer burn-out for the applicable ammunitions apply?Yes.
94Specification3.2.1.5 Video SwitchingDoes this video switching time include switching between the videos of two sensors that are not necessarily in the same FOV at the time of the switch? i.e. If the video of the day camera NFOV is being viewed and then the video is switched to the thermal camera video, is the time it takes for the FOV change for the thermal camera from WFOV to NFOV included in the 0.2 seconds as specified in the paragraph 3.1.2.7.2 FOV match? The video switching time requirement will remain at 0.2 seconds. The requirements for video switch (3.2.1.5) and FOV switching (3.2.1.7) will remain the same. If a system design is proposed that switches the FOV due to a FOV mismatch between the sensors during a video switch, the video switch time and FOV switching time has to be less than 0.85 seconds (3.2.1.7).
95Specification3.2.1.7 Field of view (FOV)Does this system only require fixed fields of view? i.e. continuous zoom is neither desired or required?Yes, only fixed fields of view are required. A design that uses continuous zoom that only goes to the fixed field of views and meets all the other requirements of the specification is acceptable.
96Specification3.2.1.8 Boresight alignmentDoes this boresight requirement paragraph pertain to boresighting the two sensors' NFOVs to a single weapon at a time? i.e. the boresight operation is for either weapon to both sights' NFOVs not both weapons to both sights simultaneously? Is there an alignment requirement between the NFOV and the WFOV of each sensor or are the weapons only to be aligned in the NFOVs?The boresighting requirement is for both sensors to a single weapon at a time. Boresighting of the sensors is only in the narrow field of view. The alignment requirement between the NFOV and the WFOV reticle is defined in 3.2.1.10.3 note 3.
97Specification3.2.1.8.3Meeting this requirement is dependent on current GFE and its ability to meet these characteristics. Not all gun/cradle combinations will meet this specification.Offerors can propose using their own test stand to show their system meets this requirement under the vibration, shock, and weapon firing of the vehicle/SCWS. This is the requirement in the SCWS specification and will not be changed.
98Specification3.2.1.8.4Same as aboveThis requirement has been eliminated from the specification.
99Specification3.2.1.8.4 LOS transientDepending on the relative placement of the sensors to the SCWS weapon and the environmental conditions at the time of weapon discharge, LOS transients beyond 0.33 seconds after the last round has been fired may occur as a result of the air thermal gradients established by the discharged SCWS weapon gases. This requirement has been eliminated from the specification.
100Specification3.2.1.9 SymbologyShould boresight reticle offset adjustment be indicated during the boresight reticle fine adjustment? Is it assumed that the reticle size will indicate the FOV of the sensor video being displayed? i.e. if more than 2 fixed FOVs are used, then a new reticle will be needed for each FOV beyond NFOV and WFOV. Does the NUC operation status for the uncooled thermal detector need to be shown via symbology?Yes, reticle offset shall be displayed during boresight reticle adjustment. The reticle offset value shall be retained and accessed through the boresight function in the Menu. The reticle indicates the FOV of the sensor. For the NFOV ezoom, the reticle design remains the same as the NFOV reticle, it just needs to be sized appropriately for the mil relationship for that FOV. Based on the NFOV reticle size, the operator will know if he is in NFOV or zoomed NFOV. For a periodic NUC, there shall be no symbology displayed to the operator. When the system changes to different sensors and the thermal sight is performing a NUC, there shall be no symbology displayed to the operator. When aperiodic NUC is required, the system shall display symbology that NUC is required. Aperiodic NUC has been added to 3.2.1.9.
101Specification3.2.2.1.1 Thermal Sight Field of ViewThe thermal system shall have a wide optical FOV of no less than 15 degrees in azimuth and no less than 11.28 degrees in elevation. Should this be 11.25 degrees? The specification has been changed to read; The thermal system shall have a narrow optical Field of View (FOV) of no less than 5 degrees in azimuth and no less than 2.81 degrees in elevation. The thermal system shall have a wide optical FOV of no less than 15 degrees in azimuth and no less than 8.44 degrees in elevation. "
102Specification3.2.2.1.12.1 automatic gain control/automatic level controlOn what part of the target scene is the AGC/ALC signal processing adjustment to be based upon? The offeror shall propose their AGC/ALC processing approach for the Government to evaluate. The specification has been updated to state the AGC/ALC shall cover the whole image displayed.
103Specification3.2.2.1.14TMDS (i.e. DVI or HDMI) is not a standard output from an imaging sensor. The specification will not be changed.
104Specification3.2.2.1.2.5 Thermal Focus speed
3.2.3.4.5 Day Focus SpeedDo the speed time requirement for near to far limits apply for all environmental conditions? i.e. High and low temp Impact is that bigger lens system driving motors require more SWAP.Yes, the requirement stands for all environmental conditions.
105Specification3.2.2.1.3 image alignment
3.2.3.5 image alignmentAre these requirements equivalent to an image rotation requirement of the video scene? If yes, then how/why are they different for each axis? What is the defined "reference mounting plane"?Yes, however, the requirements remain as stated. The Government allows more tolerance in the vertical axis. The reference mounting plane shall be a level surface of the offeror's test fixture that simulates their mounting approach for the day camera to the SCWS interface and the thermal sight to the SCWS interface.
106Specification3.2.2.1.3.4 Thermal Sight WFOV Alignment Retention.266 mils/1024 pixels for 15° degree WFOV yields 0.26 mils per pixel. The 2.0 mils alignment would have to be within 8 pixels in the WFOV. How will this be measured? It shall be measured using the WFOV 500 meter dot as the reference point.
107Specification3.2.2.1.7 Electronic Zoom
3.2.3.6 Electronic ZoomThe horizontal FOV dimension for electronic zoom is given. Is the aspect ratio of the ezoom image to be maintained at 4:3 so the vertical angle dimension is 2.67°?The specification in both paragraphs has been rewritten to state; "The optical/electronic zoom thermal image shall retain the same aspect ratio of the NFOV."
108Specification3.2.3.1 Field of ViewThe day camera shall have a wide FOV of no less than 15 degrees in azimuth and no less than 11.28 degrees in elevation. 110Specification3.2.3.14 Purge Port"… The day camera shall have a purge port that interfaces with the Fire Control Purging Kit (XXXXXXX). …" Is the same purge kit cited in paragraph 3.2.2.1.1.6 Purge port (SL-3-08460A) valid for this paragraph?Yes, purge port (SL-3-08460A) is valid for this paragraph. The specification has been updated to call out SL-3-08460A.
111Specification3.2.3.2 Fields of view between camerasDoes the within 2° FOV requirements apply to both cameras' horizontal FOVs and both cameras' vertical FOVs?No, it only applies to both cameras' horizontal FOVs. The specification has been updated to call out just the horizontal FOV.
112Specification3.2.3.3 Number of Fields of ViewIf the day camera and thermal camera have more than 2 fixed FOVs (NFOV and WFOV) does the "3.2.3.2 FOV between camera" requirement also apply? i.e. do they both have to have the same total number of FOVsThe maximum number of FOVs that the camera can have is three (WFOV, NFOV, and NFOV Ezoom or Optical Zoom). All horzontial FOVs shall meet the horizontal 2 degree requirement. The cameras must have the same total number of FOVs.
113Specification3.2.4.3Spec does not indicate LRU outer dimensions to include display and bezel switch size. The specification has been revised to define the display outer dimensions. The bezel switches are included in this overall space claim and have to be sized in order to meet the requirements 3.10.1.8.
