About this file
This document is a Sampling & Prototyping Requirements specification for the Library of Congress Wayfinding project, dated August 31, 2023, version 2.0. The document outlines which signage types require samples and prototypes prior to full-scale production, categorizing requirements across interior and exterior sign types organized into multiple sign groups (A through R).
For interior sign types, sampling and prototyping requirements are specified for nine sign categories: Minilith (A1), Poster Minilith Double-sided (B4), Orientation Hub (D1), Overhead Lunette Vinyl (E1), Overhead Lunette Frame-mounted Panel (E3), Overhead Banner Textile (E4), Medium Nameplate Wall-mounted (G2), and Dimensional Graphics Wall-mounted (H1, H2, H3). Samples of specific dimensions (20-24 square inches for most types) must be provided to the Library of Congress Team in D.C. and Applied Team in London. Partial prototypes are required for the Dimensional Graphics signs (H1, H2, H3) showing attachment methods, while full prototypes at 1:1 scale production-representative signs are needed for Minilith, Poster Minilith, Orientation Hub, both Overhead Lunette types, Overhead Banner, and Medium Nameplate. For exterior sign types, sampling and prototyping applies to Exterior Poster Case (M1), Exterior Monolith (M2), Exterior Banner Marketing (N1), Welcome Gateway Freestanding (P1), Corner Title Sign Built-Up Lettering (Q1), and Plaza Sculpture Built-Up Lettering (R1). These exterior samples range from 12-24 square inches and must also be delivered to both D.C. and London teams. Partial prototypes are required for Welcome Gateway, Corner Title Sign, and Plaza Sculpture, while full prototypes at 1:1 scale are needed for Exterior Poster Case, Exterior Monolith, and Exterior Banner. Reference sheets with specification codes are provided for all sign types to guide production specifications.
