About this file
This is a requirements document for the refinishing and repair of gymnasium floors, specified as Attachment J-1503010-06. The work involves comprehensive restoration of a gymnasium floor including bleacher management, sanding, sealing, finishing, court markings, and cove base installation.
The contractor must retract existing basketball court bleachers fully before sanding to expose maximum floor area, with areas beneath retracted bleachers exempt from refinishing but requiring blended transitions. All layers of existing floor finish must be removed by sanding with dust control measures and daily disposal of sawdust. The sanding process requires a minimum of three passes using coarse, medium, and fine sandpaper, with the first or second pass applied at 45 degrees to the grain and subsequent passes following the grain direction. The final sanding must produce a smooth, scratch-free surface. The finishing system consists of two sealer coats and two finish coats applied in Commercial Grade Oil Base Polyurethane, with proper drying time and ventilation controls between applications. The contractor must restore all court markings including game lines, NCAA volleyball lines if applicable, Marine Corps emblems in center court, borders, and nomenclature using oil-based enamel paint approved for Commercial Grade Oil Base Polyurethane. The final installation includes new three-inch by four-inch vented cove base with mitered inside corners and pre-molded outside corners per manufacturer specifications. All work must comply with manufacturers' instructions for products and materials used throughout the process.
