UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS 17900-1
SECTION 17900 - UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1
SUMMARY
A.
This section covers the Uninterruptible power system as shown on the drawings or as required to support the systems defined in these specifications. The work under this section consists of furnishing materials and equipment, performing labor and services necessary for the installation of the Uninterruptible power system required for the security electronics, communications, and fire alarm system.
B.
Related Work Specified Elsewhere: Refer to all other Division 17 specification sections and drawings, and to the specifications and drawings under the General Construction
Contract to ascertain the extent of work included.
1.2
SUBMITTALS
A.
Since the Division 17 systems must be reviewed by the Contracting Officer as a system, no individual, specific submittal shall be made for this section. Submittals shall be packaged in groups and shall be made in accordance with the General Provisions (Section 17000) of these specifications.
B.
When making the submittal as required by Section 17000, include this additional information.
1.
For the Product Data submittal, submit power calculations for each UPS unit.
Each UPS unit shall be sized such that the demand load shall not exceed eighty percent of the rated output of the unit.
1.3
REFERENCE SPECIFICATIONS, MATERIALS, AND CODES
A.
National Electrical Code
1.4
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
1.
Operation: UPS systems shall be furnished and installed to supply
Uninterruptible power to all essential Division 17 equipment as defined in this specification. It is the intent that if normal power is interrupted, the state of the system components will not be altered generating false alarms.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS 17900-2
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1
UPS:
A.
All UPS supplied under this specification shall be of the same manufacturer and of the same "UPS family". UPS shall be available in 0.7 KVA, 1.0 KVA, 1.5 KVA, 2.0 KVA, and 3.0 KVA.
B.
The UPS shall be of modular design so that there is an electronic/inverter unit and a battery unit(s). The electronic / inverter unit shall accommodate multiple battery units as required to achieve the specified run time.
1.
The electronic / inverter unit shall require three or less rack units of space.
2.
Each battery unit shall require three or less rack units of space.
C.
UPS unit shall have separate dry contact outputs for "UPS on battery" and "UPS
Trouble". The contacts shall be wired so that they open in alarm. If required, additional on board interface cards shall be provided.
1.
The "UPS on battery" contact shall open when the utility power fails and the UPS is powered by its batteries.
2.
The UPS shall automatically run diagnostics at least once every 40 days to check the condition of the batteries and UPS electronics. The "UPS Trouble" contact shall open when the UPS detects:
a.
A fault in the battery or UPS electronics.
b.
An over temperature condition.
c.
The UPS is overloaded.
D.
The UPS shall be "true on-line" so that the UPS load is always powered from the inverter. There shall not be any transfer time when the UPS switches from utility power to battery power.
E.
The input power to the UPS shall be 120 VAC - single phase at 60 Hz. The output power from the UPS shall be 120 VAC - single phase at 60 Hz.
F.
The UPS and external batteries shall be rack mounted.
G.
UPS shall be at least 90% efficient at full load and 80% efficient at 10% load.
H.
The UPS shall be compatible with the Maintenance Bypass Switch.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS 17900-3
I.
The UPS units shall be either Liebert GXT series, Powerware 91XX series, or approved equal.
2.2
MAINTENANCE BYPASS SWITCH:
A.
Each UPS unit shall be provided with an external "break before make" bypass switch.
The switch shall be universally designed so that it can be used with UPS manufactured by a company other then the manufacturer of the bypass switch.
B.
The connections to the bypass switch from the utility power, the connected UPS, and the load shall be as follows:
1.
The connections to the bypass switch from the utility power shall be made with hardwired connections.
2.
The connections between the bypass switch and the connected UPS shall be made with standard NEMA electrical receptacles and plugs.
3.
The connections to the load from the bypass switch shall be made with hardwired connections.
C.
The transfer time for the bypass switch shall be less then 6 milliseconds.
D.
The by-pass switch shall be rack mounted.
E.
The Maintenance Bypass Switch shall be compatible with the UPS.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
GENERAL
A.
All Central Control Room, Central Control Equipment Room, and Sentry LAN Room equipment shall be backed by the UPS in the Main Security Electronics room. The remote equipment room equipment shall be backed by the individual UPS in the remote equipment rooms.
B.
Ensure that all equipment is installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
C.
Battery capacity shall be sized to support rated unit output for 5 minutes, and then maintain the system in the steady state for an additional 85 minutes.
UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS 17900-4
D.
Wire both alarm output contacts of each UPS scheduled in table 17900-1, to the Security
Monitoring and Control System via PLC I/O modules as alarm inputs. These alarms shall be individually transferred to the Facility Management System (FMS) system provided under Division 15, and shall be reported at the main (FMC) reporting terminal.
The PLC system shall monitor the "On battery" alarm status for each UPS and time the event so the output to the FMS is activated only after the "On Battery" alarm status has been active for five (5) minutes.
3.2 UPS Backed Equipment
A.
The PABX and other electronic telephone system equipment shall be backed by UPS.
B.
All PLC's, PLC I/O, and PLC communications shall be backed by UPS.
C.
All active (powered) alarm devices shall be backed by UPS, including interior motion detectors, and powered door monitoring devices. (FDC only)
D.
All active (powered) alarm devices shall be backed by UPS, including perimeter security system, interior motion detectors, and powered door monitoring devices. (FCI, USP only)
E.
All CCTV camera power supplies shall be backed by UPS to provide continuous video surveillance. Video switcher and monitors shall be powered from the UPS.
Pan/tilt/zoom functions shall be on UPS power and camera housing heaters and blowers shall be on UPS power. (FDC only)
F.
All CCTV camera power supplies and video fiber optic module power supplies shall be backed by UPS to provide continuous video surveillance. Video switcher and monitors shall be powered from the UPS. Pan/tilt/zoom functions shall be on UPS power and camera housing heaters and blowers shall be on UPS power. (FCI, USP only)
G.
The entire DVRS network shall be backed by the UPS to provide continuous digital video recording. The play back stations and associated printer shall not be backed by the
UPS.
H.
All paging and intercom amplifiers shall be on UPS power.
I.
All motorized locks and sliding doors shall be on UPS power. Solenoid locks and vehicle gates shall be on generator power.
J.
All equipment cabinet ventilation fans shall be on generator power.
K.
All fire alarm equipment shall be on generator power.
L.
Non-Lethal/Lethal Electrified Fence system.
