About this file
This document is a Hydrologic-Hydraulic Analysis Report for a road repair project in Lares, Puerto Rico. The report includes computations and analysis related to the design of drainage structures, including curb and gutter, inlets, and riprap erosion control, for a section of PR-124 highway. The analysis covers peak flow estimates, spread width, inlet capacity, and design criteria for a 25-year and 50-year recurrence interval. The report provides detailed calculations and specifications for the proposed drainage structures. This report appears to be an appendix or supporting document for the federal contract opportunity to repair landslides and washout damages on several sections of highways in the Lares, Puerto Rico area. The contract opportunity has an estimated value between $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 and is set aside for certified Small Business Concerns. Bids are expected to be due around May 9, 2024.

APPENDIX -C:
HYDROLOGIC – HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS // MAIN DRAINAGE STRUCTURES
LANDSLIDES AND ROAD DAMAGE PROJECT // AC-8095444, GROUP B,
ROAD PR-124, LARES, PR
Designer: JOSE A BATLLE & ASSOCIATES
Answer to Comments: ER-HWY-108
Discussion of Results:
Included are the computations requested in response to the comments in the case. The computations include estimating peak design flow (25-yr) for the half road of State Road PR-124 (outside lane) using the rational method. In this computation, a drainage area of 0.047 acres was estimated, and a time of concentration of 5.0 minutes was assumed for a rainfall intensity estimate of 9.34 in/hr and a runoff coefficient (C) of 0.90 (pavements). The peak flow estimate was 0.42 cfs. Peak flow estimates for the basin that drains its runoff to the inside lane of PR-124 were presented in the original report.
Computations related to the dimensions of the following drainage structures: curb & gutter, inlet capacity, pavement spread, and Rip-rap are included in this appendix. The estimated spread width is
3.32 feet (1.01 meters) for a lane width of 3.15 meters.
On the other hand, inlet capacity was evaluated to handle runoff from the 25- and 50-year design rainfall events. These structures will have the following dimensions:
Inlet located outside lane PR-124: length 3.0 ft x width 2.0 ft, Inlet located inside lane PR-124: length 6.0 ft x width 2.0 ft.
In summary, the civil design of the drainage structures meets the design criteria. Lastly, erosion control system dimensions are included. This system uses riprap (grouted) with a minimum size of d50 = 1.0 ft (Class III -FHWA) and an estimated apron length of 7.75 meters. These calculations were performed for a peak flow design (100-year).
