WARNING

Asbestos shall be treated as friable during removal.

Asbestos in excess of 1% is present in the existing marinite paneling.

The affected tanks and piping to be removed are shown outlined in red on CG Dwg 400 WAGB 4803-9 Sheet 5 of 8, Mark-Up. Only the following tanks and associated piping are affected:

Heeling Tank 3-57-1-F Heeling Tank 3-57-2-F Heeling Tank 3-85-1-F Heeling Tank 3-85-2-F Heeling Tank 3-113-1-F Heeling Tank 3-113-2-F Roll Stabilization Tank 2-182-0-F

3.2 Tank Cleaning and Gas Free Certification. Cleaning of the affected tanks shall be conducted in work item Tanks (Dirty Oil, Waste), Clean and Inspect of this specification package. The Contractor shall initially certify and maintain the gas free certification of the tanks as required to perform hot work.

3.3 Ballasting Piping Removals. The contractor shall perform the following work:

The outboard bulkheads on the port and starboard passageways are steel. Inside of the affected berthing areas, the bulkheads are covered by marinite panels which may contain asbestos. The contractor shall remove the marinite panels and contain any asbestos dust to prevent spread of contamination as required to perform the work.

3.3.1 Using the Mark-Up drawings and the Booklet of General Plans for the cutter for guidance, inspect the firemain and ballasting system. Mark areas where piping is to be removed and caps are to be installed. The three valve manifold located at approximately Frame 223 will not be removed as a part of this work item. Verify piping removals with the Coast Guard Inspector prior to commencing work.

3.3.2 Following guidance in the drawing listed above, crop and remove unneeded tank ballasting piping coming off of the firemain. Remove all tank ballasting pipng from the firemain junctions to the terminus inside of each of the affected tanks. Do not remove the three valve manifold located at frame 223 as a part of this specification item.

3.3.2.1 Remove all tank ballasting piping for the affected tanks from the firemain to the tank inlet and down to the terminus in the tank. Grind off and remove all unused pipe hangers.

3.3.3 Crop and remove bulkhead penetrations where the firemain and ballasting piping penetrates steel bulkheads and decks.

3.3.4 Repair the bulkheads and decks by inserting new steel in way of the removal. Follow guidance in SFLC Std Spec 0740 and CG Dwg 400 WAGB 2906-1 for welding. Existing deck material and thicknesses may be obtained from CG Dwg 400 WAGB 1106-3 and CG Dwg 400 WAGB 1106-4.
