3.1.2 Nameplates. Nameplates for motors, generators, transformers, control apparatus, switchboards, heaters, brakes, and clutches shall be in accordance with applicable nameplate sections of IEEE Std 45.
3.1.3 Electric Machinery Coupled to Other Machinery. Except as otherwise specified, electric machinery that is coupled to other machinery, such as a pump driven by a motor need have only one label plate with appropriate designation.
3.1.4 Location. Information plates, identification plates, label plates and tags shall be installed in readily visible locations on the equipment or types of equipment they identify, or if this is not practicable, on adjacent structure.
3.1.5 Remote Location. When equipment is installed in a remote or isolated location, an additional information plate shall be attached to or adjacent to the access to the equipment.
This information plate shall identify and locate the equipment within a simple location diagram enclosed in clear plastic.
3.1.6 Numbering. Numbering of electric machinery or similar equipment in a system: Similar equipment in a system shall comprise a group, and each group shall be assigned a separate series
REV - 3 305
of consecutive numbers, each series beginning with 1. The number shall be assigned in the order that the equipment is added to the system. If a modification to the system requires the removal of a piece of equipment from the system, its number shall not be reassigned. Like equipment shall generally be numbered from forward to aft (primary), lower to higher (secondary) and inboard to outboard (tertiary), except that numbering of main propulsion components shall be the same as the associated main propulsion unit. Main propulsion units are ordered sequentially from the most outboard starboard (No. 1) to the most outboard port (highest number). Where multiple like components serve the same main propulsion unit or switchboard, a suffix letter starting with “A” shall be used to distinguish between the two components, e.g. No., 2B Main Motor Blower. See Figure 1 below:

3.2.1.1 First Number. The first number shall indicate the vertical level at which the component is located, by deck or platform number.
3.2.1.2 Since the machinery spaces can have multiple levels within the space and varying heights within a single level the following shall apply for determining the vertical level: For legacy Cutters follow the label plate convention already established for the Class. For new construction the shipyard/contractor shall provide a plan demonstrating the dividing line between deck levels within the machinery spaces to the Coast Guard Technical Authority for review and approval. Machinery spaces shall include but not limited to Engine Rooms, Generator Rooms, Auxiliary Machinery Rooms, Steering Gear Rooms, and any other compartment with the compartment designation ending in “E”.
3.2.1.3 Second Number. The second number shall indicate the longitudinal location of the component by frame number. If the component is not on a frame, the next forward frame number shall be used.
