Technical Data Sheet

LOCTITE® Fixmaster® Magna-Crete®

December 2007

GENERAL INFORMATION

For safe handling information on this product, consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Directions for use

1. Preparat ion: For best results, surface must be clean, dry and free from loose material. Remove all dirt, blacktop tar, and oil substances from the area to be covered, leaving a rough clean surface.

2. Forms: If forms are needed, use plastic or Formica.

3. Mixing: To mix material, add aggregate to activator and mix thoroughly. Add only enough activator to obtain the consistency desired for the application. Mix approximately 3.8 liters of activator to 20.4 kgs of aggregate (approximately 1 :5 ratio).

Material should be mixed immediately prior to placement and should be completed soon as possible.

4. Deep Pours: For repairs greater than 2.5 cm in depth, up to

13.6 kgs of dry pea gravel can be added for each 20.4 kgs of Magna-Crete® as a filler. Dry pea gravel should be added to the activator before the Magna-Crete® aggregate is mixed. For large applications, use HOT WEATHER MIX to manage the set time for additional working time.

5. Water: Work areas can be damp, however, standing water should be removed. Water should not be used to dilute the liquid or to adjust consistency of Magna-Crete®.

6. Cold Weather Application: Set-up time will be longer in colder applications. For those applications where the application temperature is less than 7 •c use COLD WEATHER MIX (one

0.45 kg package per 20.4 kgs of Magna-Crete® increases the cure speed by approximately 10 minutes) to accelerate the set time of the mixed material. Addition of the Winter additive should be made after the Magna-Crete has been thoroughly mixed, and just prior to the application or pouring of the Magna-Crete.

7. Warm Weather Application: For applications where the application temperature is greater than 29 •c, use HOT WEATHER MIX (one 0.45 kg package per 20.4 kgs of Magna Crete® decreases the cure speed by approximately 10 minutes) to manage the exothermic reaction and the working time of the mixed material. The Summer additive should be thoroughly mixed into the liquid portion of the Magna-Crete. The Magna Crete can then be mixed, and applied/poured.

8. Clean-up: Keep an adequate supply of water on hand to wash mixer and tools as soon as set begins 9 to 15 minutes at 20 •c.

CONSIDERATIONS:

• LOCTITE® Crack Filler SL is not intended for joints that are subject to higher than 10-15% movement.

• LOCTITE® Crack Filler SL is a moisture sensitive product and cannot be applied to wet or damp joints.

JOINT PREPARATION:

Remove all dust, debris, oil and any other contamination from the construction and/or saw cut joints. For best results re-cut joints with a dry diamond blade (do not apply to a wet surface). Applied material should be level with concrete. Allow LOCTITE® Crack Filler SL to set for approximately 45 minutes (at 75° F.) then use a sharp 8" wall scraper to shave excess material from top of slab.

CARTRIDGE SET-UP:

While preparing cartridge for dispensing, keep cartridge in an upright position to prevent material from leaking out of cartridge. Do not tilt cartridge until material is to be dispensed.

I. Shake cartridge vigorously for 45 seconds. Then let cartridge stand upright for 5 minutes.

II. Remove plastic cap from the top of the cartridge.

III. Immediately place the nozzle onto cartridge and secure with nut by threading in a clock-wise direction.

Make sure that the nozzle and cartridge assembly is secure.

IV. Insert cartridge with nozzle attached into dispenser.

Make sure it is properly positioned with shoulder of cartridge flush with front/top bracket of the dispenser.

With nozzle pointing straight up, slowly apply pressure to dispenser to purge air from cartridge and nozzle.

Once air has been purged, continue holding straight up and balance the cartridge by dispensing V2 stroke of material into a rag (1-2 quick bursts if using an air tool).

After purging and balancing always point cartridge downward when not dispensing to prevent mixed material in he nozzle from flowing back into the cartridge.

Repairing Small Joints and/or Cracks in Concrete:

V. Place the mixing nozzle directly over the crack or joint you are repairing. Dispense material and allow to gravity feed into the crack/joint. Over-fill the crack/joint so that material is slightly higher than the face of the concrete slab you are repairing.

VI. Allow the LOCTITE® Crack Filler SL to set for approximately 45 minutes then use a sharp 8" wall scraper to shave excess material from top of slab.

VII. Allow material to fully cure before subjecting repaired area to any type of traffic.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This product is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen rich systems and should not be selected as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizing materials

For safe handling information on this product, consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Directions for use:

1. Surface Preparation:

For coating concrete. wood, tile. and other porous surfaces, please refer to the Loctite® Big Foot™ Acrylic Primer Technical Data Sheet.

For coating metal surfaces, please please refer to the Loctite® Big Foot™ Metal Primer Technical Data Sheet.

Note: The use of a primer will increase the adhesion and durability of LOCTITE® Big Foot™ Acrylic Pedestrian Grade

2. Mixing:

Thoroughly premix contents of resin can, with a mechanical mixer. using Loctite® Big Foot™ Mixer Blades, scraping material from sides and bottom of the can until mixed material assumes a uniform color and appearance.

3. Application Method:

LOCTITE® Big Foot™ Acrylic Pedestrian Grade can be applied at surface temperatures of 10 to 54°C. Application is not recommended when the surface temperature is above or below these temperatures. It can be applied by roller or spray.

4. Roller Rolled applications provide the most aggressive anti-slip characteristics with an irregular, ridged profile.

1. Use a phenolic roller. It is important that the rolled profile expose the maximum amount of anti-slip aggregate. If aggregate is not properly exposed, the coating may become slippery when wet.

2. Pour a "ribbon" of material on the surface approximately 60 cm x 15 cm. Roll material toward you with a moderate amount of pressure. Do not over-roll too many times or press down too heavily. Be careful that material does not build up too thickly along welds (roll across welds not along them). Material applied too thickly may not cure properly.

3. Higher temperatures will shorten drying time and conversely, lower temperatures and high relative humidity will lengthen drying time. Exterior applications must be protected from rain for at least 12 to 24 hours after application. Protect from heavy or extended exposure to water, oil and chemicals for 5 to 7 days during final cure.

5. Spray:

Spray applications will result in a uniform appearance with good non-slip characteristics.

1. LOCTITE® Big Foot™ Acrylic Pedestrian Grade should be thinned. Thinning will result in grit not remaining properly ln suspension.

2. Specialized mastic type spray equipment is required. A recommended set-up is as follows:

A. A 19 liter outlet pressure tank equipped with a double regulator and an air driven agitator, and 2.5 cm LD.

outlet pipe.

B. 7.6 m of .95 cm air hose with .95 cm female connectors at each end.

C. 7.6 m of1.9 cm air hose with 1.9 cm female connectors at each end.

D. A Binks Model 7E2 spray gun equipped with .64 cm (#45) fluid nozzle and a .64 cm internal air cap or a Binks Model 52-2012 (1.2 m) pole gun equipped with the same fluid nozzle and air nozzle ..

3. Minimum air supply required is 20 CFM at 90 lbs.

pressure. Recommended is 15 to 20 psi on material and 20 to 25 psi on atomization. Always keep atomization air pressure higher than pot pressure. Keep agitator running slowly. Good coverage and film thickness will be obtained working at 45 to 60 cm from the surface.

Overlap strokes about 50°/o. Make sure of application.

Very tittle abrasive rebound will be noticed at 15 psi, however, it wm be more noticeable at higher pressure.

4. When temperature is above 26°C, it is advisable to flush the spray equipment with water every hour or so in order to prevent the possibility of any material setting up and plugging the equipment.

6. Surface Maintenance - Maintain a clean surface to ensure that the anti-slip safely performance is maximized. We recommend the following cleaning procedure:

1. Apply an all-purpose, biodegradable cleaner/degreaser.

2. Scrub surface with a long-handled, fibre bristled brush or floor machine.

3. Rinse with clean water and dry. Foreign matter such as chewing gum should be removed with a scraper or putty knife and then the surface should be cleaned following above procedure.

4. Although this anti-slip coating is extremely durable, it is not permanent and will require occasional touch-up, especially in high traffic areas. This material can be re-applied over itself. To re-apply, follow instructions above for surface preparation, mixing and application.

Maintenance, Repair & Operations, March 2006

2. Rust Conversion Time and App(!arance:

Two coats of Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment are recommended.

On llghtly rusted steel (that has been wirebrushed), the first coat will start to develop a violet color within 60 seconds. This will become satin to flat black in appearance. The second coat should dry to a satin black appearance.

On heavily rusted steel (that has been wirebrushed), the first coat should develop a purple-black color within seconds. The second coat should dry to a black color with gloss varying from flat to satin. The second coat should be applied within 15 to 30 minutes of the first coat.

Directions for Use 1 Mix thoroughly before using.

2. Remove oil, dirt and grease from surface. Wire brush to remove flaky rust and loose scale. Some surface rust must be present

3. Pour into clean container for easy application by brushing or apply directly to surface and brush out.

4. Use of gloves is recommended.

5. Brush or sponge on liberally. An airless spray may also be used.

6. A black coating will appear within 5 minutes. Uneven color indicates need for additional coats for maximum protection. Recoat time 15 to 30 minutes. Allow 24 hours minimum to dry before finish paint.

7. Most finish paints will not require any additional primer.

However, light color latex and metal filled paints reguire a solvent base primer on top of Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment coating before finish application.

8. Brushes, rollers and other tools should be cleaned immediately with detergent and water. Flush spray equipment immediate!y after use with detergent and water.

Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment is difficult to remove when dry.

Hints and Precautions for Use

1. Surface preparation - remove loose or flaky rust, oil, grease, dirt, oil debonding paint, water soluble sulfates, chlorides, cutting oil residues.

2. If sandblasted, sufficient material should be applied to effectively cover the profile.

3. Application of 2 coats for 4 mils dry film thickness recommended for maximum durability.

4. Prolonged contact with water before fully cured may cause coating to turn white. After re-drying black appearance will return.

Application Conditions Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment may be applied when surface and air is between 50°F minimum and rising and 90°F maximum and falling. Reaction is slower at lower temperatures. If temperature is too hot, film may surface dry and bubble. High humidity is beneficial; it slows drying but assists rust conversion. Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment should not be applied in conditions of condensing humidity (e.g. fog, dew), on ice, in rain or in heavy sea (salt) spray atmospheres. Steel surfaces may be damp but not wet (i.e.

continuous visible film of water). Do not apply Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment to surfaces in direct sunlight.

Application Equipment Methods Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment may be applied by brush, roller or spray. Brush or roller is suitable for small areas.

Avoid sags and ridges and keep wet by coating about a square yard at a time. Roll away from previously coated area then roll back. Do not pour unused material back into the original container or dip brushes in original container. NEVER add solvents to Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment Spray application is recommended for larger areas. Airless spray equipment is faster and provides more effective conversion due to improved surface penetration. Conventional air-spray equipment may be used, but Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment may require thinning up to 1 Oo/o with water for proper spraying.

Resistance to Moisture Solvents & Chemicals Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment should be topcoated for many applications. Continuous exposure of Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment coating to water, solvents or chemicals can cause whitening, blistering or flaking of the latex film.

Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment should not be used in applications involving continuous immersion in water or fluids.

Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment should be topcoat&! with products known to be resistant to the environment expect&!.

Latex topcoats are not recommended without a suitable barrier coat.

Topcoat selection is dependent upon the environment to which the coating will be subjected. The following guidelines can be used. Topcoats are listed by their relative order of performance.

' Moisture/salt spray - high-build epoxies, coal tar epoxies, catalyzed urethanes, vinyls, chlorinated rubber Solvent Resistance - catalyzed urethanes, high build epoxies, coal tar epoxies, vinyls Acid Resistance - catalyzed urethanes, vinyls, coal tar epoxies, high build epoxies Alkali Resistance - catalyzed urethanes, coal tar epoxies, high build epoxies, chlorinated rubber Oxidizing Agent Resistance - vlnyls, catalyzed urethanes Abrasion - epoxies, urethanes, alkyds

Where cratering, pitting or heavy surface profile is evident, use two coats of Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment by a high build primer or topcoat with sufficient mil thickness to prevent pin point corrosion. As with all paint systems, a test patch Is recommended. Any reputable painting contractor or coating representative can also assist you.

The following primers should not be applied directly over Loctite® Extend® Rust Treatment

• Zinc dust (zinc rich primers)

• Copper powder (anti-fouling paints)

• Industrial primers containing chromate are usually compatible, however a test patch should be completed to insure performance.

Clean Up When Loctite® Extend(!) Rust Treatment dries, it is extremely difficult to remove; therefore, spatters should be cleaned as they occur. Immediately after use, contaminated brushes, rollers, trays, etc., should be clean&! with cold tap water and detergent. Spray equipment should be flushed through immediately with mild detergent and water and rinsed with fresh water. Containers should be closed after every use to prevent skinning.
