WORK DESIGNATION ‐ Room numbers 114, 118, 119, 120, and 121 and the asphalt paving at the existing aggregate driveway to the east of building 610 are to be considered new minor construction. The remainder of construction at building 610 is to be considered repair construction. Systems that serve exclusively the areas of new minor construction shall also be considered new minor construction. SECTION 26 12 00 -

PART 1 - GENERAL

MEDIUM-VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes the following types of transformers with medium-voltage primaries:

1. Pad-mounted, liquid-filled transformers as per UFC 3-550-01 Section 3-5 (Pad

Mounted Distribution Transformers.)

1.2 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type and size of transformer indicated.

1.3 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. Operation and maintenance data.

B. Provide Safety Analysis studies, charts, and calculations per UFC 3-501-01 Section 3-

2.4 and 3-2.5.

C. Per UFC 3-501 Section 2-1.10 and Section 3-2.6 provide Arc Flash analysis and Arc Flash Warning Labels. Refer to UFC 3-560-01 for other requirements on label size and information.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.

B. Comply with UFC 3-550-01. This document will supersede all local and state laws.

C. Comply with IEEE C2 and NFPA 70 per UFC 3-550-01.

D. Comply with ANSI C57.12.28, IEEE C57.12.10, IEEE C57.12.70, and IEEE C57.12.80 per UFC 3-550-01.

E. Comply with UFC 3-501-01 for all analyses and safety studies.

1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Service Conditions: IEEE C37.121, usual service conditions per UFC 3-550-01.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

A. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

2.2 LIQUID-FILLED POWER TRANSFORMERS

A. Description: Comply with IEEE C57.12.00 and UL 1062 for liquid-filled, 2-winding transformers as per UFC 3-550-01 Section 3-5 (Pad Mounted Distribution Transformers).

B. Insulating Liquid: Fully biodegradable, nontoxic and nonbio-accumulating fluid., qualifying as “less flammable” Less flammable, and listed by a NRTL acceptable to authority having jurisdiction as complying with NFPA 70 requirements for fire point of not less than 300 deg C when tested according to ASTM D 92. Factory Mutual Approved or UL Classified.

C. Insulation Temperature Rise: 65 deg C, based on an average ambient temperature of 30 deg C over 24 hours with a maximum ambient temperature of 40 deg C.

D. Windings: Copper.

E. Primary Voltage: 12.47kV line-to-line 3 phase 3 wire 60 Hz per UFC 3-550-01, Section 3-5.3.

F. Secondary Voltage: 480/277 V, 3 phase, 4 wire 60 Hz per UFC 3-550-01, Section 3- 5.3.

G. Efficiency: Meet or Exceed values in Table 4-1 of NEMA TP 1. Provide ROI calculation that shows transformer efficiency rating verses transformer cost to justify transformer chosen.

H. Basic Impulse Level (BIL): Comply with UL 1062

I. Full-Capacity Voltage Taps: Four, 2.5 percent taps, 2 above and 2 below rated primary voltage; with externally operable, de-energized tap changer; position indicator; and padlock hasp.

J. Cooling System: Class OA, self-cooled.

K. Sound Level: In accordance with Manufacturer’s standards.

L. Terminal Compartments: Refer to UFC 3-550-01 Section 3-7 (Pad-Mounted Switchgear).

1. General: IEEE C57.12.28, enclosed high and low voltage compartments side by side, separated by steel barrier, bolted to transformer tank.

a. Doors:

1) Individual, full-height, air-filled.

2) Low voltage door with three point latching mechanism, vault type handle, and single locking provision.

3) High voltage door fastenings inaccessible until low voltage door has been opened.

4) Door Bolts: Penta-head type.

5) Lift off, stainless steel hinges and door stops.

6) Removable front sill to facilitate rolling or skidding over conduit stubs.

7) Recessed lock pocket, with steel door release bolt adjacent to secondary compartment door handle.

b. High Voltage Compartment:

1) Deadfront in accordance with IEEE C57.12.26 type construction.

2) Protective fuses.

3) High voltage bushings.

4) Transformer ground pad.

5) Surge arrestors with barriers.

6) Loop feed, four position sectionalizing load-break switch.

c. Low Voltage Compartment:

Use of Livefront construction must be approved by the AHJ per UFC 3-550-01 Section 3-5.5.

6) 1 inch upper filter press and filling plug.

7) Drain valve with sampling device.

8) Dial type thermometer.

M. Bushings: Follow UFC 3-550-01 Section 3-5.

1. High Voltage Side:

1) Universal bushing well rated at 15Kv in accordance with IEEE 386.

2) Bushings externally clamped and front removal.

3) Rated for 200 amperes continuous, 95kV BIL.

4) Standard brackets located adjacent to bushings.

2. Low Voltage Side:

1) Molded Epoxy bushings clamped to tank with 4 hole spade type terminals.

2) Rated 150 percent of continuous full-load current, 30 BIL, 600 volts.

3) Internally connected neutral extending to neutral bushing.

N. High Voltage Switching:

1. Internal oil-immersed, gang-operated load break, manually operated switches.

2. Hot Stick operated handle located in high voltage compartment.

3. Capable of operating at full-load current.

O. High Voltage Protection:

1. Bayonet-type, oil-immersed expulsion fuses.

P. Enclosure:

1. In accordance with IEEE C57.12.28.

2. Welded carbon steel transformer tank, with cooling panels when required, and lifting eyes.

3. 12-gauge sheet steel terminal compartment enclosure having no exposed screws, bolts, or other fasteners that are externally removable.

4. Color: Munsen Brown.

Q. Tank Grounding Pads

1. High and low voltage compartments:

a. Connected together with bare No. 2/0 stranded copper conductors

b. Wye-wye high and low voltage neutrals internally connected with link and brought out to insulated low voltage bushing externally grounded.

R. Tap Changer Warning Sign:

1. Red laminated plastic, engraved to white core.

2. Engraved to read: DO NOT OPERATE WHEN TRANSFORMER ENERGISED.

3. Mount above tap changer handle.

2.3 IDENTIFICATION DEVICES

A. Nameplates: Engraved, laminated-plastic or metal nameplate for each transformer, mounted with corrosion-resistant screws.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install and anchor transformers on concrete bases according to manufacturer's written instructions.

1. Install on new pad as required.

B. Maintain minimum clearances according to manufacturer's written instructions and

NFPA 70.

3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Perform electrical test and visual and mechanical inspection stated in NETA ATS, Section 7.2. Certify compliance with test parameters.

B. Test and adjust controls and safeties.

3.3 FOLLOW-UP SERVICE

A. Voltage Monitoring and Adjusting: Perform the following voltage monitoring after Substantial Completion but not more than six months after Final Acceptance:

1. During a period of normal load cycles, perform seven days of continuous three-phase voltage recording at secondary terminals of each transformer. Voltage unbalance greater than 1 percent between phases, or deviation of any phase voltage from nominal value by more than plus or minus 5 percent during test period, is unacceptable.

2. Corrective Actions: If test results are unacceptable, perform the following corrective actions, as appropriate:

a. Adjust transformer taps.

b. Prepare written request for voltage adjustment by electric utility.

3. Retests: After corrective actions have been performed, repeat monitoring until satisfactory results are obtained.

4. Report: Prepare written report covering monitoring and corrective actions performed.

3. Wall-mounted, dry transformers.

A. Product Data: For each type and size of transformer indicated.

B. Shop Drawings: Indicate dimensions and weight.

C. Size transformer and panels per UFC 3-520-01.

1.3 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. As required in Specification 26 12 00 Section 1.3.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

L. Transformer Taps:

1. Taps for transformers 25kVA or greater: Two 2.5 percent taps above and two 2.5 percent taps below normal full capacity.

2. Taps for transformers 7.5 to 24kVA: One 5 percent tap above and one 5 percent tap below normal full capacity.

3. Taps for transformers smaller than 7.5kVA: None.

M. Terminal Compartments:

1. General: IEEE C57.12.28, enclosed high and low voltage compartments side by side, separated by steel barrier, bolted to transformer tank.

2.3 DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER (Wall or Floor Mount)

A. Description: Factory assembled and tested, air cooled units for 60 Hz service. Self-cooled two winding dry type rated, for continuous duty. Transformers shall comply with NEMA ST 1, UFC 3-520-01 Section 3-1 (Low Voltage Transformers), and Tri-Service Electrical Working Group TP-5.

B. K-Factor Rating: Transformers shall be K-factor rated to comply with UL1561 requirements for non-sinusoidal load current handling capability to the degree defined by designated K-factor.

C. Cores: Grain oriented, non-aging silicon steel.

D. Windings: Continuous windings without splices except for taps. Internal coil connections brazed or pressure type. Winding material Copper.

E. Transformer Taps:

1. Taps for transformers 25kVA or greater: Two 2.5 percent taps above and two 2.5 percent taps below normal full capacity.

2. Taps for transformers 7.5 to 24kVA: One 5 percent tap above and one 5 percent tap below normal full capacity.

3. Taps for transformers smaller than 7.5kVA: None.

F. Enclosure: Ventilated, NEMA 250, Type 2. With Gray finish.

2.4 IDENTIFICATION DEVICES

A. Nameplates: Engraved, laminated-plastic or metal nameplate for each transformer, mounted with corrosion-resistant screws.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install and anchor pad mounted transformers on concrete bases or wall mount according to manufacturer's written instructions.

2. Corrective Actions: If test results are unacceptable, perform the following corrective actions, as appropriate:

b. Prepare written request for voltage adjustment by electric utility.

4. Report: Prepare written report covering monitoring and corrective actions performed.
