Question Answer

Reference Sheet A-601 Room Finish Schedule and Sheet AF101 First Floor Finish Plan – the Room Finish Schedule shows room 133 Storage as CPT-1, but on the First Floor Finish Plan the pattern in that room shows CPT-5. What should the room finish should be in this room?

Use CPT-1 as indicated on Room Finish Schedule. That will avoid an unnecessary transition at the door between 134 and 133.

Reference Section 090600 Schedules for Finishes section 2.3.1.3 Vinyl Composition Tile. The VCT finish is listed as

Mannington Essentials Glacier 12x12. Mannington no longer carries VCT. Armstrong is the substitute for the Mannington

VCT – replacement for the Mannington Essentials would be Armstrong Standard Excelon Imperial Texture VCT in 51861 soft warm gray. This is the provided substitute for this product. Is this acceptable?

Armstrong and Johnsonite both have products that would be acceptable substitutes. Exact color will have to be determined from sample sets submitted after contract award. No specific substitutes will be approved at this time.

Is the category 6 cabling to be STP (on plan sheets) or UTP (in written specs)? Cabling shall be STP. See revised spec 27 10 00.

Are we to provide copper and fiber patch cords? Is so how many, style and lengths?

This project is very complex in how it will fit together and the costs add up quick. There are many runs of 2 strand fiber to the workstation shown on the plans. So depending on how many of these will be live ports and who is providing and installing the patch cables is a large impact.

All ports are to be considered live. Patch cords are required within patch panels, telecom racks, telecom/server rooms and similar conditions within the scope of equipment installed and supported under this contract. Cabling is required to wall and floor box outlets, but not from outlets to workstations. See sheet EY101, notes 20 and 21 as examples. Cabling from telecom/server rooms to consolidation patch panels is required, but not from consolidation panel to furniture. See sheet

EY101, notes 36 and 31 as examples.

Are the fiber consolidation points to be used for all outlets on the plans or just the SOC room? See note 4 on the telecom outlet legend

Delete the last sentence of note #4 in Telecom Outlet Legend, sheet E-601. All fiber optic cables/drops shall be fed via consolidation patch panels above the ceiling or below raised floor as shown on plans. Consolidation patch panels are shown on muliple plans with notes associated with them (EY101, EY102, EY201, EY202). Also refer to note #11 on Telecom Outlet Legend. See revised sheet E-601.

Fiber backbone to consolidation points, will these need to be sized to cover the quantity of horizontal cables to each for each network?

Provide fiber cabling from telecom and/or server rooms to fiber consolidation patch panels to meet or exceed the number of outlets of each type in the area served by the patch panel.

Is there a detail on how they want to mount fiber patch panels on Unistrut at these consolidation points? It states

Unistrut to floor but that will not have enough depth to mount patch panels as they need at least 10” of depth. some locations will need 10 RU which is 17.5”

Contractor shall provide method/system of mounting so that panels are not mounted directly to floor where shown below raised floors. Panels can be aligned horizontally or vertically as needed and coordinated with other systems below floor.

This is a complex and high quantity cabling network, does the AFB have a preferred manufacturer of equipment or a material list from a previous project they are looking to follow?

The Government does not have any preferred manufacturers.

Who provides the "Mon", as shown on walls? I am assuming these are monitors. Is there a spec section? Does the GC install? Room 203 shows the most of these but they are also shown in other rooms. There shows about 71 of these monitors.

Per Spec Section 01 11 00 Summary of Work Part 1.5 states that TV's/monitors are NIC.

See changes and additions on revised sheets G-001, A-101, A-102, EP402, and EP403 for related clarifications regarding locations and blocking.

The Telecommunications Outlet (T.O.) Legend on drawing E-601 request fiber cables and fiber connector colors that are not meet the TIA, BICSI and/or industry standards, therefore, these cables will be a special order item with minimum order quantity and increased lead times.

2-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (NIPR-GREEN)

2-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (SIPR-RED)

2-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (JWICS-YELLOW)

2-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (SIPR VOICE-GRAY)

1. Is it your intent to maintain these cable color codes (which were setup for copper cabling at GFAFB)?

2. To achieve the requested connector colors, would be cost prohibitive and would have a very long lead times. Can a color ICON meeting the requested color be used at the workstation, consolidation points and equipment rooms as a substitution?

3. Drawing EY202, Note #4: requires three (3) 48-strand OM4; one for NIPR, one for SIPR and one for JWICS networks. Is it the intent that these three (3) 48-strand fiber cable colors meet the T.O. Legend color codes?

The color coding is an Air Force standard for this application. Cabling jackets and connectors shall conform to the required color coding. Alternate methods are not acceptable.

The Telecommunications Outlet (T.O.) Legend on drawing E-601 requests copper cables to be 2-pair copper (Shielded

Twisted Pair) CAT6 STP black cable, however, 2-pair cable does not meet CAT6 TIA, BICSI and/or industry standards, therefore, the requested 2-pair CAT6 cables are not available.

1. What type cable should be used for the POTS locations?

Provide 4-pair CAT6 STP.

The Telecommunication JWICS, NIPR, SIPR, Copper Backbone Cabling/Conduit Diagram on drawing E-505 request fiber cables and fiber connector colors that are not meet the TIA, BICSI and/or industry standards, therefore, these cables will be a special order item with minimum order quantity and increased lead times.

12-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (JWICS-YELLOW)

24-STRAND MM OM4 PLNM CABLE (NIPR/SIPR-ORANGE)

The color coding is an Air Force standard for this application. Cabling jackets and connectors shall conform to the required color coding. Alternate methods are not acceptable.

Cabling to workstations is not within the scope of this project.

The Telecommunication JWICS, NIPR, SIPR, Copper Backbone Cabling/Conduit Diagram on drawing E-505 request 25-pair

CAT 6 STP copper backbone cables, however, 25-pair CAT6 UTP and/or CAT 6 STP are not available.

1. What type cable should be used for the for the 25-pair backbone cables?

If 25-pair CAT 6 STP is not avaiable, 25-pair CAT 5e STP would be suitable.

Patch Cords (SECTION 27 10 00, “2. 4. 5 Patch Panels”

“...Provide pre-connectorized optical fiber and copper patch cords for patch panels. Provide patch cords, as complete assemblies, with matching connectors as specified. Provide fiber optic patch cables with crossover orientation in accordance with . Patch cords shall meet minimum performance requirements specified in , and for cables, cable length and hardware specified.”

The above patch cord information is lacking detail information to accurately quote patch cords.

Fiber

1. Can you provide some guidance on the number, length, connector type and color (note that colors other than industry standard will require minimum orders and longer lead time)?

Copper

1. There are no patch cords in the COMM and Server room, can you provide some guidance on the number, length, type, color, etc.

Patch cords are required within patch panels, telecom racks, telecom/server rooms and similar conditions within the scope of equipment installed and supported under this contract. The number and length of patch cords is dependant on the configuration of the racks and the area/ports served.

Reference sheet A-104. Upper right corner (RAISED ACCESS FLOORING LEGEND) forth item down (cable cutouts) shows a small square with nothing in it. I see those on the first floor and on second floor where RAF 2 is located. However on second floor where RAF 1 is located there are many small boxes about the same size but with an x in them. Are these also cable cutouts with Koldlok’s? or something else?

The boxes with an x are for HVAC as indicated on sheet MH103.

Is the category 6 cabling to be STP (on plan sheets) or UTP (in written specs)? Cabling shall be provided per drawings. See revised spec 27 10 00.
