B. Samples, Joint Sealers: Submit three (3) twelve (12) inch long samples of each color required for each type of joint sealer exposed to view. Install sample between 2 strips of material similar to or representative of typical surfaces where sealer will be used, held apart to represent typical joint widths. For multi - component materials, factory made samples will be acceptable.
1.6 JOB CONDITIONS
A. Installer must examine joint surfaces and backing, and their anchorage to the structure, and conditions under which joint sealer work is to be performed, and notify Contracting Officer in writing of conditions detrimental to proper completion of the work and performance of sealers. Verify that size of joint is as shown on drawings or as required for proper sealant installation. If joint is wider than shown or required, cost of additional material to properly fill the joint will not be an additional cost to the Owner.
Do not proceed with joint sealer work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to Installer.
B. Weather Conditions: Do not proceed with installation of sealants under adverse weather conditions, or when temperatures are below or above manufacturer's recommended temperature range for installation or when temperatures of surfaces at the joint are below 40 degrees F exterior and 60 degrees F interior. Proceed with the work only when forecasted weather conditions are favorable for proper cure and development of high early bond strength.
C. Do not proceed with installation of joint sealants where joint widths are less than allowed by joint sealant manufacturer for application indicated.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS
A. Comply with manufacturer's printed instructions except where more stringent requirements are shown or specified, and except where manufacturer's technical representative directs otherwise.
3.2 JOINT PREPARATION
A. Clean joint surfaces immediately before installation of sealant or caulking compound. Remove dirt, insecure coatings, moisture and other substances which would interfere with bond of sealant or caulking compound. Etch concrete and masonry joint surfaces as recommended by sealant manufacturer. Roughen vitreous, porcelain enamel, or glazed joint surfaces as recommended by sealant manufacturer.
B. Prime or seal joint surfaces where shown or recommended by sealant manufacturer. Do not allow primer / sealer to spill or migrate onto adjoining surfaces.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Set joint filler units at proper depth or position in joint to coordinate with other work, including installation of bond breakers, backer rods and sealants. Do not leave voids or gaps between ends of joint filler units.
B. Install sealant backer rod for elastomeric sealants, except where shown to be omitted or recommended to be omitted by sealant manufacturer for application shown.
C. Install bond breaker tape where shown and where required by manufacturer's recommendations to ensure that elastomeric sealants will perform properly.
D. Employ only proven installation techniques, which will ensure that sealants will be deposited in uniform, continuous ribbons without gaps or air pockets, with complete "wetting" of joint bond surfaces equally on opposite sides. Except as otherwise indicated, fill sealant rabbet to a slightly concave surface, slightly below adjoining surfaces. Where horizontal joints are between a horizontal surface and vertical surface, fill joint to form a slight cove, so that joint will not trap moisture and dirt.
(092036) 07 92 00-6 (Repair AHU O-Club, B462)
E. Install sealant to depths as shown or, if not shown, as recommended by sealant manufacturer but within the following general limitations, measured at center (thin) section of bead:
1. For normal moving joints sealed with elastomeric sealants but not subject to traffic, fill joints to a depth equal to 50 percent of joint width, but neither more than 1/2 inch deep nor less than 1/4 inch deep.
2. For joints sealed with non - elastomeric sealants and caulking compounds, fill joints to a depth in range of 75 percent to 125 percent of joint width.
F. Spillage: Do not allow sealants or compounds to overflow or spill onto adjoining surfaces, or to migrate into voids of adjoining surfaces. Clean adjoining surfaces by whatever means may be necessary to eliminate evidence of spillage.
G. Do not overheat hot - applied sealants.
H. Recess exposed edges of gaskets and joint fillers slightly behind adjoining surfaces, unless otherwise shown, so that compressed units will not protrude from joints.
I. Bond ends of gaskets together with adhesive or "weld" by other means as recommended by manufacturer to ensure continuous watertight and airtight performance. Miter - cut and bond ends at corners unless molded corner units are provided.
J. For sealants applied to joints which occur in conjunction with waterproofing, install sealant prior to application of waterproofing.
K. Masking Tape: Use masking tape where required to prevent contact of sealant with adjoining surfaces that otherwise would be permanently stained or damaged by such contact or by cleaning methods required to remove sealant smears. Remove tape immediately after tooling without disturbing joint seal.
3.4 TESTING
A. Contractor shall provide adhesion testing of sealants by an approved Representative of the Manufacturer. A minimum of one test per 2,000 lineal feet of each sealant used and in addition where adhesion appears to be failing.
3.5 CURE AND PROTECTION
A. Cure sealants and caulking compounds in compliance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations, to obtain high early bond strength, internal cohesive strength and surface durability. Advise of procedures required for cure and protection of joint sealers during construction period, so that they will be without deterioration or damage (other than normal wear and weathering) at time of Government's acceptance.
