About this file

Exhibit B is a document detailing laboratory professional classification requirements for Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) and Medical Technologists (MT) for a state contract in West Virginia. The document specifies the educational, certification, and licensing prerequisites for these two distinct laboratory professional roles.

For Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), candidates must possess an associate's degree in medical laboratory technology, hold a national certification from either the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), and be licensed to work in West Virginia. Medical Technologists (MT) require a more advanced bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, with identical certification and state licensing requirements. Both roles are responsible for processing laboratory specimens, performing tests, and providing diagnostic information, with MLTs working under more direct supervision compared to MTs.
