1 OVERVIEW

1.1 Scope

This Job Guide defines the detailed processes and procedures in the creation and storage of the shore infrastructure drawings. The intent of these procedures is to enable consistent development, review, and storage to support sharing resources across the shore infrastructure community. Technical data management, version control, and construction drawings are standardized in the Drawing Management CSTO (draft) and elaborated in this Job Guide.

1.2 Applicability

This guide covers the requirements for managing all drawings created or modified in direct support of CG shore infrastructure assets.

1.3 Background

In order for the Coast Guard Civil Engineering community to operate efficiently, drawing design standards and handling procedures must be consistent across the CG-43 enterprise. Drawings must align with current industry drafting practices and procedures. CG-43 has adopted the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) led Tri-Service Standard, which is a subset of the US National CAD Standards (NCS). The Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (A/E/C) Work Structure is provided by the USACE to offer a common environment to communicate efficiently and effectively across stakeholder offices. The A/E/C template has been filled in with CG-specific information to create a CG template. Utilization of the CG templates is paramount to ensure all shore infrastructure drawings are created the same. Additionally, drawing naming and storage has been standardized to allow for resource balancing across the shore infrastructure community.

1.4 Familiarization with CAD

This Job Guide was written with the expectation that the reader has used AutoCAD before and is not meant to be an AutoCAD user tutorial. Users are encouraged to pursue AutoCAD training opportunities to better utilize the program.

2 DRAWING STANDARD

The A/E/C Standard is comprised of a Graphics and a CAD Standard. The Graphics Standard addresses drafting topics and the CAD Standard addresses the standard use of CAD software and data format. 3 AUTOCAD DRAWING PROCEDURES

The CG follows the National CAD Standards and the A/E/C Standard. The details from those standards are not repeated here. The focus is on the main areas of the CG template.

3.1.1 Drawing Templates

There are four CG AutoCAD templates. These are adaptations made to the A/E/C provided templates that conform to the CG’s Document Management System (CG-TIMS/Adept) and match CG terminology.

1. Cover Architectural: A Cover Sheet with Styles and Units formatted for architectural feet and inches.

2. Cover Decimal: A Cover Sheet with Styles and Units formatted for decimal feet and inches.

3. Standard Architectural: A Standard Sheet with Styles and Units formatted for architectural feet and inches.

4. Standard Decimal: A Standard Sheet with Styles and Units formatted for decimal feet and inches.

3.1.2 New Drawings and Layouts

New Drawings can be started by using any of these methods from the initial AutoCAD Start Page

• Main AutoCAD Menu

• Quick Access Menu

• Start Drawing Templates Pulldown

• Start Drawing Icon which is only setup for the Cover Sheet

New Layouts can be started by using any of these methods from within a session.

• Type LAYOUT at Command Line

• Right Click on a Layout Tab, then select New Layout

3.1.3 Working with non-A/E/C Standard Drawing Files

3.1.3.1 Title Blocks

1. Erase all occurrences of non-A/E/C Title Blocks

2. Purge All Blocks

3. Add New Layout

4. Re-enter Title Block information

5. Enter former standard Title Block information into new Title Block

An alternative CG-TIMS method is to make a Copy of the existing AutoCAD file within your Adept Work Area before step 1. Follow steps 1 through 3 and copy model space objects and paper space objects from 0,0 to 0,0, close and Save your AutoCAD .dwg file and then Copy and Paste Data Cards from within your CG-TIMS Work Area from old drawing to new.

3.1.4 Plotting

The drawing template is set up with a Named Plot Style (stb) method of plotting drawings. All new drawings are to be created with the CG template and will have the stb plot settings already included. For previous drawings, the user can update a color plot table (.ctb) plot settings to .stb plot settings using the “CONVERTPSTYLES” command in AutoCAD. Users may also convert from a non-standard .stb plot settings to A/E/C by running the “CONVERTPSTYLES” twice.

The A/E/C Standard Plot Style table is found within the PlotStyle folder and is named AEC_B&W.stb.

3.1.5 Drawing Set Cover Sheet

This “Cover Sheet” format is intended to fit typical USCG CE Office requirements while conforming to the A/E/C Standard. Some portions are visual guides and are non-plottable.

Some parts are regular editable text. Some portions are attribute text. Some portions can be moved a block left or right or up or down depending on need, but must remain in its original area.

3.1.5.1 Title block

The Title Block is a vertical block on the right side of the sheet.

3.1.5.2 Designer ID Block

The Designer ID Block is where the Agency Logo and Name are placed, CE Logo and the words “US COAST GUARD CIVIL ENGINEERING”. There is a place for Local and AE Logos on the Cover Sheet within the drawing area.

3.1.5.3 Revision Issue Block

The Revision Issue Block is where the sheet’s history of revisions are placed. The “PLOTTING SCALE” and “SCALE” attributes are under this Block. These are usually “1:1” and “AS SHOWN” respectively. The Standard shows the sheet size (ANSI D) instead of or in addition to these.

3.1.5.4 Management Block

The Management Block contains information about the owner, the design firm, sheet data, and project management data in 3 columns. The CG project number, CG drawing number, filename and Sheet X of Y are in the first column. Next are the CG Engineering Unit’s name, Project Engineering (EIC/DPM) with enough space for signing, and then grouped Designed, Drawn, Edited and Checked By next to each other. Lastly, 2 areas are used for the lead AE Company and a Consulting AE Company with the lead on top.

3.1.5.5 Sheet ID Block

The Sheet ID Block contains the Sheet Identifier (G-001) or Discipline Sheet Number (current TB) plus the Property Description (or optional Bldg ID per A/E/C Standard). The attribute for the Property Description is MText format which provides the ability to wrap 3 lines of text within this narrowed space.

3.1.5.6 Signature Block

The Signature Block only appears on the Cover Sheet and is why there is a separate Cover Sheet template. Enough room is available for both wet and Adobe signatures.

The Approval Date is an important field that needs to be filled in. This will typically require an extra step after the signed drawings leave an office’s CO or TD’s hands.

3.1.5.7 Stamp Block

The Stamp Block appears in the upper right of the drawing grid. If you have more than one stamp, you work your way down the vertical edge of the sheet, but if there are more than 3 stamps, the fourth goes back to the top to the left of the 1st stamp.

3.1.5.8 Solicitation and Contract Numbers

The Solicitation and Contract Numbers only apply to Design Build Contracts. If this is not the case, erase and do not enter anything within these attribute fields.

Figure 3-1: Cover sheet

3.1.5.9 Project Description

There are 4 lines in the upper left hand quadrant of the Cover Sheet which provide basic information on the project. These fields do not map to Adept/CG-TIMS, and the text shall be edited by the draftsman to read:

PROJECT LOCATION (ex. CG UNIT NAME)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION LINE 1 (ex. CITY, STATE)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION LINE 2 (ex. CG PROJECT TITLE)

PROJECT IDENTIFIER IF NEEDED (ex. PROPERTY NAME)

3.1.6 Title Block

The title block conveys useful and specific information. The information is mapped to CG- TIMS/Adept, and must be entered in a consistent manner in order for meaningful information to reside in the CG-TIMS library card and database. The Title Block’s text in the template is created using colors to denote the type of information in that field. As the user edits the title block to fill in the fields, use the following key: Blue = SAM (enter information from the SAM project), Red = Adept and Drawing (these fields will map to the library card), and Magenta/Purple = Drawing Only (this information only resides on the drawing). (Figure 3-2) All of these colors will print black.

Figure 3-2: Title Block

3.1.7 Drawing Set Standard Sheet

This “Standard Sheet” format is intended to fit typical USCG CE Office requirements while conforming to the A/E/C Standard. The Title Block is the same as the Cover Sheet, except for the adjoining Signature Block. Also, “Notes:”, “Keymap:” and “Stamp” areas may be removed if not needed. If larger than the space allotted, they may be expanded to assume adjoining modules.

Figure 3-3: Standard sheet

3.1.8 Zones

All drawing sheets include vertical (alphabetical) and horizontal (numerical) zones for reference purposes as specified with the 7x10 grid in the drawing template. The template is created with these zones established. The alphabetical (vertical) lettering starts at “A” at the bottom row and continue through “G” at the top row. The numerical (horizontal) entries starts with “1” on the far left column and continue through “10” on the far right.

3.1.9 Drawing Sheet Sets

Drawing Sheet Sets are associated most commonly by by their Project and corresponding Drawing Numbers and Filenames.

Since information within the title block is mapped to the library card in Adept, the title block information is extremely important to facilitate location and identification of drawing information in the future.

If a drawing consists of a model space with several tabs of paper space layouts, the title blocks on all the tabs must contain the same information for any field mapping to Adept. This is due to the nature of Adept using one title block as the source to represent all layouts within a single drawing file. Adept will only load the information into the library card from whichever tab was last opened, when the drawing file was saved. If different tabs have different title block information, several drawing tabs will not have information visible when a user is searching in Adept. As a result, the Adept search results will not always be successful.

Alternatively, users can also load each drawing tab into Adept as a separate file. When different layouts have different title block information, each layout must be loaded as a separate drawing file.

3.1.10 Single Sheet Drawings

If the project is for a smaller job where all the geometry will fit within the designated area of Figure 3-4, the designer may use a modified cover sheet for a single drawing design set.

Utilizing the cover sheet template will provide the approval signature blocks needed for the package. Use the cover sheet template and modify the sheet to match the layout of Figure 3-4 below.

Figure 3-4: Single Page Drawing

3.1.11 Sheet Size

The standard ANSI D size sheet (22“ x 34”) and border have been created to implement a PDF electronic signature process either by publishing the electronic drawing or scanning the printed drawing set.

3.1.12 Layers

All drawing layers shall reflect the A/E/C CAD Standard Layer Assignments. These layer assignments are preloaded into the USCG templates. All users are highly encouraged to use only these layers without modifying the layer attributes.

Also note that these assignments are strong recommendations for graphics associated with each layer. In rare occasions, line style, line width, and color may be changed to aid in drawing clarity (e.g., to show hidden objects). However, the recommended assignments shall be adhered to as much as possible to maintain drawing consistency.

The following general guidance shall be applicable to all drawings:

• No objects may be drawn on layer “0” (zero), except in the case of blocks.

• Revision entities outside of the revision history block such as revision triangles, hatching and revision clouds shall be on a separate layer for each revision (*-ANNO-REVC and *- ANNO-REVS). Note that this does not require that the drawing elements inserted at a revision be on a separate layer, (though this is not prohibited either), only that the revision cloud and symbol be on a separate layer for each revision.

• Layer “*-ANNO-NPLT” will be used for any information that should be visible on the drawing, but not plotted. Layer Manager will be set for no plot for all layers named “*-

ANNO-NPLT”.

• When adding a layer to distinguish “new” from “existing”, add an “-N” at the end of the layer name and put the lineweight of new work bolder than existing. Follow A/E/C Standard paragraph 4.2.2.

3.1.13 As-Built Drawings

While both final design drawings and as-built drawings are both valuable and need to be saved in Adept, as-built drawings need to be distinquished from final design drawings. As-built drawings shall have “ASB” as the suffix of the name in the Adept library card.

3.1.14 Proofing and Drawing Quality Assurance

Before the final approval, audit the drawings to ensure that there are no internal errors.

• Purge the drawings of unused block definitions, layers, line types, etc. (except for special layers which may be required for assignment drawings in supplemental CAD policies) to keep file size to a minimum and simplify product for future users.

• Remove any extraneous data outside the drawing borders and unused objects in model space to keep file size to a minimum and simplify product for future users.

• .DWG files shall be independent of dedicated support files (excl. referenced files raster files). All support files required shall be contained within the USCG A/E/C Standard folder structure.

• Sheet sets will not be supported. All data required to manage title blocks and publish sets of drawings shall be accomplished using CG-TIMS and the Publish command.

• All essential fields are embedded inside the attribute values of the title block. Other plot stamp options can be derived at time of plotting by using the Publish command’s “Include plot stamp” options.

• Each sheet drawing shall be individually contained within one file.

• Layouts of sheet files shall be named by their Sheet ID’s (ex. “G-001”).

• Ensure layer “0” is not used with the exception of block definitions.

• Delete any unused layout tabs.

• Delete any unattached XREF paths and Bind XREFs using the Insert option, so that all file references are internally removed.

• All System Variables have been properly set within the USCG Template Files.

• ZOOM to EXTENTS and save drawing.

• Save in accordance with the latest USCG AutoCADTM drawing format.

• Statement of Substantial Conformance shall be submitted, if authoring party cannot find resolution within either of the latest A/E/C Graphics or CAD Standards.

4 FILE IDENTIFICATION AND STORAGE

4.1 Drawing Number

The A/E/C Standard sets the drawing number to be the same as the Project Code, as shown in Figure 4-1 below. For the CG, the Project Code is the SAM parent project number. Therefore, the CG drawing number is the SAM parent project number.

4.2 Sheet Identifier

The sheet identifier is composed of the discipline designator, the sheet type designator, and the sheet sequence number (e.g., A-101).

4.3 File Naming

Civil Engineering Sheet files are named following the A/E/C Standard as described in Section

2.4.3 of the A/E/C Standard. (Figure 4-1 below).

If using “Model Files”, then follow Section 2.2.1.1 and 2.4.2 of the A/E/C Standard.

Figure 4-1: Drawing Naming

The first field (section of the naming) is used for a 1- to 20-character Project Code. The Project Code is the SAM parent project number. The next two characters are the Discipline Designator with either a hyphen or an alphabetical Designator (Table 2-3 of the A/E/C Standard). The next character is the Sheet Type Designator (Table 2-4 of the A/E/C Standard) followed by a two character Sheet Sequence Number (01-99).

4.4 File Storage

Refer to the CG-TIMS Data Entry PGTO (SILC-PGTO-36-11 29 13 15-06) and CG-TIMS Job Guide (SILC-JG-36-11 29 13 15-09) for details on storing documents (including drawings) in

CG-TIMS.

Note: CG-TIMS Check In/Check Out function is fully auditable. If an office uses Check In/Out, CG-TIMS will keep revision records in addition to what is entered into Rivision/Issue Blocks.
