About this file
This document is a Radon Sampling Report for a U.S. Coast Guard project in Dollar Bay, Michigan. The report was prepared by TriMedia Environmental & Engineering Services, LLC and summarizes the results of radon testing conducted at several housing units on October 24, 2023. Radon levels were measured in picoCuries per liter (pCi/L), with the EPA action level being 4.0 pCi/L. The testing found no radon levels above 4.0 pCi/L, so no further action is required at this time. The report includes details on the sampling methodology, test locations, results, and photographic documentation.
The related federal contract opportunity is for the Recapitalization of Family Housing at the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Portage, Michigan. This design-build project will construct five new multiplex housing units, consisting of two three-bedroom and three four-bedroom units. The contract also includes three optional items for additional housing and a maintenance building. This opportunity is limited to DHS, NMACC III, Pool II contract holders.

Re: Radon Sampling Results – for the U.S. Coast Guard Project in Dollar Bay, Michigan
TriMedia Project Number 2023-3130
Dear Mr. Rouleau:
TriMedia Environmental & Engineering Services, LLC (TriMedia) was retained by the U.S. Coast Guard to provide Radon sampling at the identified housing locations in Dollar Bay, Michigan.
SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
TriMedia was on site to establish radon sampling locations and to collect samples on October 24, 2023. Each housing complex was sampled during the same time period. Radon sampling requires sampling be performed on the lowest possible level of the structure being tested. All housing units are slab on grade construction so the lowest level of sampling available was the main floor with two locations selected for each unit. The radon test was performed using a liquid scintillation radon detector and counted on a liquid scintillation counter using approved EPA testing protocols for Radon in Air. Closed building conditions for short‐term testing required all windows and doors be closed with only momentary entry and exit allowed. Heating and cooling systems were set to occupied temperatures and settings, and no equipment for exchange of indoor and outdoor air was allowed, except what is a permanent condition of the heating or cooling system. There was no severe or unusual weather during the test period with exterior temperatures being between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the night with no precipitation.
Two samples were collected at each residence. Radon testing was conducted for 48 hours with the testing devices left undisturbed. Temperature and humidity were recorded on the Radon Data Sheet provided with the EMSL Analytical Inc. (EMSL) Sample Kit. Both test vials were labeled with a unique sample number, appropriately containerized, and shipped via overnight carrier under chain-of-custody documentation to EMSL in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. Lab reports are enclosed for your records.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Radon is measured in picoCuries per liter of air (pCi/L). The US EPA action level for radon is 4.0 pCi/L with a recommendation that measured levels above 4.0 pCi/L be corrected. Below in the tables are the sample locations and results. No exceedances were detected, therefore no further action with regards to radon is necessary at this time.

**The negative number in Radon in air analysis occurs from background subtraction. The background counts per minute are subtracted from the samples counts per minute so when the background is higher than the sample this produces the negative number. The results are reported as measured, including zeros and negative numbers. This essentially can be interpreted as a non-detect result.
It is hoped this Summary Report meets your needs and expectations. Should you have any questions regarding this correspondence, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned at

Report Note
The radon test was performed using a liquid scintillation radon detector/s and counted on a liquid scintillation counter using approved EPA testing protocols for Radon in Air testing. The EPA recommends fixing your home if the average of two short-term tests taken in the lowest lived-in level of the home show radon levels that are equal to or greater than 4.0pCi/L.
The EPA recommends retesting your home every two years.
Please contact EMSL Analytical, Inc. or your State Health Department for further information.
All procedures used for generating this report are in complete accordance with the current EPA protocols for the analysis of Radon in Air.
