About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that establishes the format and content requirements for Technical Data Packages (TDP) in federal contracting.

The DI-SESS-80776B document specifies that a TDP serves as the authoritative technical description of an item and supports acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics activities. The TDP must be delivered in either Government-specified format or contractor format, as identified in the TDP Option Selection Worksheet incorporated into the contract or purchase order. The document supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-80776A and references MIL-STD-31000B for detailed implementation requirements. The TDP content shall include one or more of the following elements: conceptual, developmental, product, or commercial engineering design data; Special Inspection Equipment (SIE) and Special Tooling (ST) engineering design data; specifications; software documentation; Special Packaging Instructions (SPI); and Quality Assurance Provisions (QAPs). When product engineering design data is included, it must document unique manufacturing processes, performance ratings, dimensional and tolerance data, critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences, diagrams, mechanical and electrical connections, physical characteristics, material identification details, inspection and test criteria, equipment calibration requirements, quality assurance requirements, hardware marking requirements, certifications and testing requirements, vendor substantiation data, software programming requirements, and special consideration items and processes.
