About this file

This document is a Data Item Description (DID) that establishes the format, content, and requirements for delivering a Technical Data Package (TDP).

A TDP serves as the authoritative technical description of an item, providing clear, complete, and accurate information necessary for acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics. The document, designated DI-SESS-80776B with approval date August 1, 2019, supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-80776A and references MIL-STD-31000B for detailed technical data package standards. Deliverable TDP elements may be provided in either Government-specified format or contractor format, as designated on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet. The TDP must include one or more of the following elements: conceptual engineering design data, developmental engineering design data with associated lists, product engineering design data with associated lists, commercial engineering design data, Special Inspection Equipment (SIE) data, Special Tooling (ST) data, specifications, software documentation, Special Packaging Instructions (SPI), and Quality Assurance Provisions (QAPs).

For product engineering design data specifically, the TDP shall document details of unique manufacturing processes, performance ratings, dimensional and tolerance data, critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences, toleranced input and output characteristics, diagrams, mechanical and electrical connections, physical characteristics including form and finishes, material identification and condition requirements, inspection and test criteria, equipment calibration requirements, quality assurance requirements, hardware marking requirements, required certifications and testing procedures, vendor substantiation data, software programming requirements and validation procedures, and special consideration items and processes.
