About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that establishes format and content standards for Commercial Engineering Design Data and Associated Lists required in Department of Defense acquisitions. The DID, numbered DI-SESS-81003F and approved on April 17, 2019, applies to military systems, equipment, and component acquisitions and supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-81003E.

The document specifies that contractors must deliver Commercial Engineering Design Data and Associated Lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000 and the TDP Option Selection Worksheet incorporated into the applicable contract or purchase order. The data must be provided in the contractor's or original supplier's format and shall contain sufficient information to enable Government maintenance, modification, and engineering analysis of commercial items. Before acquisition, the Government activity must evaluate the contractor's engineering design data package and documentation practices to ensure satisfactory utility. The DID is tailored to minimum data requirements and is related to three companion DIDs: DI-SESS-81000F, DI-SESS-81001F, and DI-SESS-81002F. Use of this DID is limited by Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) Subpart 227 requirements.
