About this file
This is a Standard Detail specification document prepared by the City of West Sacramento, California, for sidewalk and curb & gutter construction standards applicable to the CFD Sidewalk Replacement 2026 project. The project involves the removal and replacement of damaged 4-inch Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) sidewalk panels at multiple locations within various Community Facilities Districts, including sawcutting, removal and disposal of existing panels, subgrade preparation, aggregate base installation, PCC sidewalk replacement, and root barrier and driveway crossing reconstruction where applicable. The City of West Sacramento is accepting sealed responses no later than Friday, September 4, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Work is paid on a per-square-foot unit price basis, and bidders must comply with the attached specifications, Standard Specifications, and Standard Details, with the most stringent requirement governing in case of conflicts.
Standard Detail 202 specifies the structural and construction requirements for separated curb, gutter, and sidewalk installations on Southport Street. Sidewalk widths vary between 4 feet minimum for existing work and 5 feet minimum for new construction, with 4-inch thick 4000 PSI minimum concrete required under sidewalks and 6-inch thick concrete under curb and gutter. The specification requires compacted Class II aggregate subbase, transverse broom finish on sidewalk surfaces, and specific joint and rebar placement requirements. Tool joints and score marks must be placed at specified intervals depending on sidewalk width, with 12-foot intervals and 4-foot score marks for 4-foot wide sidewalks and 10-foot intervals with 5-foot score marks for 5-foot wide sidewalks. Cold joints require vertical and square-ended construction with embedded #4 rebar, and connections to existing concrete must include epoxy-filled core holes with rebar at 18-inch on-center spacing.

NOTES:
A. FOR REPLACEMENT OF A 4-FOOT WIDE EXISTING SIDEWALK, PLACE 1½-INCH DEEP TOOL JOINTS AT 12-FOOT INTERVALS
AND SCORE MARKS AT 4-FOOT INTERVALS. FOR A 5-FOOT WIDE SIDEWALK, PLACE 11
2-INCH DEEP TOOL JOINTS AT 10-FOOT
INTERVALS AND SCORE MARKS AT 5-FOOT INTERVALS. JOINTS OR SCORING DIMENSIONS OF 6' SIDEWALK OR WIDER SHALL
BE AS DIRECTED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
B. THE SIDEWALK WIDTH SHALL BE AS SHOWN IN DIVISION I, SECTION 3 OF THESE STANDARDS.
C. FOR CURB & GUTTER INSTALLATIONS ON EXISTING STREETS, SAW CUT AND REMOVE A MINIMUM 2-FOOT WIDTH STREET SECTION ADJACENT TO THE GUTTER LIP. PLACE A MIN. 6-INCH THICK ASPHALT CONCRETE PATCH IN THE CAVITY ADJACENT TO THE GUTTER LIP, OR MATCH THE EXISTING STREET SECTION, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. MATCH STREET
STRUCTURAL SECTION UNDER CONCRETE CURB & GUTTER PORTION OF CROSS-SECTION.
D. APPLY A LIGHT TRANSVERSE BROOM FINISH TO THE SURFACE OF THE SIDEWALK. APPLY A BROOM FINISH TO THE CURB &
GUTTER PARALLEL TO THE STREET CENTER LINE.
E. AT THE END OF EACH DAYS POUR, WHEN WORK IS EITHER TERMINATED, OR A DELAY OF MORE THAN 30 MINUTES OCCURS, THE JOINT SHALL BE MADE VERTICAL AND SQUARE ENDED WITH 18 INCH LENGTHS OF #4 REBAR EMBEDDED 9 INCHES IN IT
AT 18 INCHES ON CENTER.
F. WHEN A CONCRETE POUR TERMINATES AT EXISTING CONCRETE, PLACE #4 REBAR 12” IN LENGTH @ 18” O.C. ALONG THE COLD JOINT. REBAR SHALL BE PLACED IN THE EXISTING CONCRETE BY CORING OR DRILLING 1/8” LARGER HOLE THAN REBAR INTO THE EXISTING CONCRETE (4” MIN.). BRUSH/BLOWOUT HOLES, INSTALLING THE REBAR, AND FILLING THE
