About this file
This document is a Gopher Tortoise Initial Assessment report prepared for the Florida Inland Navigation District's (FIND) Dredge Material Management Area (DMMA) BV-52 in Brevard County, Florida. The assessment was conducted in February and March 2022, specifically on 2/10, 2/16, and 3/2, to survey potential gopher tortoise burrows. During the survey, thirty potential gopher tortoise burrows were identified and marked with pink flagging tape, with the highest density of active burrows located in the northwest corner of the property.
The report includes detailed documentation of the survey, including a map showing the precise locations of the burrows (Figure 1) and a comprehensive table (Table 1) listing the GPS coordinates for each of the 30 identified burrow sites. Accompanying the report are photographic evidence of several burrow locations, capturing the surrounding vegetation and terrain. These photos were taken on different dates in February and March 2022, with precise GPS coordinates and directional information noted on each image. The assessment appears to be a preliminary ecological survey, likely part of the environmental due diligence process for the Eau Gallie Muck Removal Project Area A1, which involves dredging and material management on the FIND property.
