11. OTHER TAILORING (Attach additional sheets as necessary

The following tailoring applies to all RB-S III 2D Product Drawings:

11.1 AutoCAD Environment and File Structure

11.1.1 All drawings shall be AutoCAD® 2025-compatible DWG files.

11.1.2 All sheets of a drawing shall be in a single DWG file using Layout Tabs.

11.1.3 Each sheet shall have its own Layout Tab named with the sheet identifier (e.g., “1”, “2”, “3”).

11.1.4 All sheets of a drawing shall be the same size unless explicitly authorized by USCG.

11.1.5 Drawing sizes A–D shall be used.

11.1.6 All drawings shall be of sufficient clarity so that when they are reduced from original size to 11 x 17 inches (“B” size), they shall be fully legible.

11.2 View Titles

11.2.1 For A/B sheets, view titles shall include sheet number + letter (e.g., “Detail 2-A” for first view on Sheet 2).

11.2.2 For C/D sheets, view titles shall include zone number + letter (e.g., “Detail 6-B”).

11.3 Prohibition of X-REFs and Proxy Graphics

11.3.1 All geometry, details, and metadata shall be contained within the drawing file.

11.3.2 External references (X-REFs) and proxy graphics shall not be present in delivered files.

11.3.3 Imported blocks/details shall be converted to fully editable AutoCAD entities.

11.4 Model Space / Paper Space Usage

11.4.1 All geometry shall be drawn in Model Space at 1:1 scale.

11.4.2 Views shall be shown via Paper Space viewports at appropriate scales.

11.4.3 Text, dimensions, and notes (including weld symbols) shall be created in Paper Space.

11.4.4 PDF sheets shall be generated from Paper Space layouts; each sheet shall normally derive from one layout tab with the correct border and title block.

11.4.5 PDFs shall be suitable for operator use with standard PDF viewer software.

11.5 Use of 3D Design Models

11.5.1 If a 3D CAD design is used, 2D product drawings shall be distilled from the native 3D model into AutoCAD-compatible, fully editable DWG files.

11.5.2 Each drawing file shall contain all necessary geometry, annotations, and metadata in Model Space and Paper Space; no X-REFs in delivered files.

11.5.3 2D Product Drawings remain the primary governing deliverables.

11.6 Removal of Unused Geometry

11.6.1 3D elements or other geometry not visible in any viewport shall be removed from delivered DWG files.

11.6.2 Each drawing should contain only the geometry needed to disclose the content of that drawing.

11.7 Datum and Modules

11.7.1 The boat shall have a single datum (e.g., “Fr 0, Baseline, Centerline”).

11.7.2 This datum shall be shown wherever present in a viewport.

11.7.3 Each 3D-derived element shall be referable to that datum.

11.7.4 If modules are used, each module drawing shall show the module in its in-service position and orientation and note its location relative to the boat datum.

11.8 Callout Blocks

11.8.1 GFI-provided blocks shall be used for weld symbols, view callouts, section arrows, scales, and similar elements.

11.8.2 “Callout Table” fields shall be populated as follows:

11.8.2.1 View Type: Plan/Profile/Elevation/Section/Detail/Isometric/Schematic as appropriate.

11.8.2.2 Zone: numeric + alpha (e.g., “6-B”), based on view location.

11.8.2.3 View Description: cutting plane or clarifying text (e.g., “Frame 23 Lkg Aft”, “Plating Not Shown”).

11.8.2.4 View Scale: inches per foot or inches (English), or decimal ratio (metric).

11.8.2.5 View Callout Reference: zone of the annotation or cut arrow from which the view was derived (optional when not derived from another view).

11.9 Material Lists

11.9.1 One continuous Material List per drawing, continued on subsequent sheets as required.

11.9.2 All components used to build the boat and installed on or delivered with the boat (including bulk materials such as adhesives; excluding welding consumables) shall appear on a Material List.

11.9.3 Required fields per item include at least:

11.9.3.1 Item Revision Letter

11.9.3.2 Drawing Item Number

11.9.3.3 OEM (manufacturer)

11.9.3.4 OEM description / salient characteristics

11.9.3.5 OEM part number, National Stock Number (if available), or National Item Identification Number (if available).

11.9.3.6 Material

11.9.3.7 Quantity and Units

11.9.3.8 Note/Comment

11.9.4 Use English units for quantities; SI material characteristics may be included where needed.

11.9.5 Sheet metal thickness shall be expressed in decimal units (not gage).

11.9.6 Distributors’ part numbers may be used only when salient characteristics are defined in the description and shall include the words “or equal.”

11.10 Schematic Diagrams

11.10.1 Piping and electrical schematics shall be included for each system.

11.10.2 Drawings combining arrangements and schematics shall be titled “… Arrangement and Schematic” or similar.

11.10.3 Schematics are not to scale; components and interconnections shall be arranged for clarity.

11.10.4 Symbol sizes shall be consistent; each schematic shall include a symbol list.

11.10.5 All functionally significant components (valves, disconnectable joints, switches, breakers, fuses, junctions, terminal strips) shall be depicted; permanent welded/threaded joints need not be shown.

11.10.6 Hose vs pipe shall be distinguishable; flow direction, quantities, pressures, and sizes shall be shown as text or in tables.

11.10.7 Electrical schematics shall show cable types, gauges, circuit protection, and component ratings.

11.10.8 Schematics shall not have a Material List; they may have component lists for clarity but the authoritative bill of material resides on arrangement drawings.

11.10.9 Components shown on schematics shall also appear on arrangement drawings and in their Material Lists; schematics shall include a reference table of drawings that locate/order the components.

11.10.10 Harnesses may be indicated on schematics; separate harness drawings with true wire lengths shall be provided when harnesses are used. Harness drawings may have Material Lists and weight blocks; arrangement drawings may list the harness as a single part and reference the harness drawing.

11.11 Dimensions

11.11.1 Use named dimension styles for each scale; names should indicate scaling factor (e.g., “P48” for DIMLFAC=48).

11.11.2 Dimensions shall be associative and shall not be exploded.

11.11.3 Non-associative dimensions shall be minimized.

11.11.4 Redundant dimensions are allowed when associative to the same geometry; otherwise, they shall be labeled “Ref.” with a view/drawing reference.

11.11.5 For structural/arrangement dimensions:

11.11.5.1 < 72" use inches and fractions (CG-FRAC styles);

11.11.5.2 ≥ 6'-0" use feet-inches-fractions (CG-ARCH styles).

11.11.6 Fractions shall be displayed unstacked (e.g., “1/4"”) in dimensions, notes, and Material Lists.

11.11.7 Units and precision shall be chosen appropriate to the tolerance needed.

11.12 Revision Column

11.12.1 The revision column shall be kept clear of tables, viewports, or other material except the title block elements and standard revision entries on Sheet 1.

11.12.2 Revision identification and approval processes shall follow COMDTINST 9085.1 (series) as follows:

11.12.2.1 Initial Contractor submissions for USCG review and approval shall use numeric revision indicators (1, 2, 3, …).

11.12.2.2 Upon USCG approval of the drawing(s), the Contractor shall remove numeric revisions and associated write ups, change all sheets to

Rev “ ”, and apply the USCG approval signature as directed.

11.12.2.3 There shall be no addendum sheets (e.g., 3A, 3B) in the final USCG approved Rev “ ” submissions.

11.12.2.4 After USCG approval, subsequent revisions shall use alphabetical revision letters (“A”, “B”, etc.), excluding I, O, Q, S, X, and Z, increasing incrementally with each revision.
