About this file

This document is a submittal transmittal and associated engineering calculations for a patient lift support system installation at the VA Des Moines Health Care System's CLC Cottage facility, located at 1601 San Pedro SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. The project is designated CLC Cottages (Project No. 636-123, Contract No. 120000), with specification section 120000 covering Lift Supports Barrier Free. The submittal was transmitted by Covenant Construction Services representative Matt Patet on June 17, 2020, for Designer Danyelle Russell's review and approval.

The engineering calculations document (PEC Job No. 200886) provides structural analysis for the lift system hanger supports, lateral bracing, and framing attachments designed by Providence Engineering Corp. The system supports a 1,000-pound patient lift capacity with a 1.25 safety factor (1,250-pound test load), plus 50 pounds of system self-weight. Design calculations verify compliance with the 2018 International Building Code, ASCE 7-16 seismic standards, and AISI S100-16 cold-formed steel specifications for the Des Moines location (Seismic Design Category C). Key components include 1/2-inch diameter threaded hanger rods, P5500 and P5501 Unistrut channel framing members, P1000 lateral brace channels with P1026 angle connections, and field-installed fasteners. The calculations demonstrate that all structural members, connections, and attachment methods satisfy allowable stress design requirements under gravity and seismic loading conditions, with maximum hanger rod spacing of 3.95 feet and maximum moment anchor spacing of 25 to 67 inches depending on Unistrut span configuration.

Under typical conditions, the system will be short-term loaded to no more than 500lbs Live Load plus self-weight of the system. If a large seismic event occurs during the 1250lbs load test, a patient lift failure will not result in human life safety concerns. Limit gravity Live Load to 500lbs for lateral force analysis.
