About this file
This document is a Conceptual Design Illustrations attachment for the Aucilla Tram Road Bridge and Water Control Structure (WCS) Access Improvements project located at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, Florida. The illustrations are preliminary visualizations provided solely to assist quoters in understanding the Government's intended operational outcome and are explicitly not to scale, not complete engineering designs, and not for construction purposes. The document emphasizes that quoters remain responsible for proposing one complete, technically feasible design-build solution satisfying all solicitation and Statement of Work requirements, with the Statement of Work governing in any conflict with these illustrations. Dimensions, structural geometry, bridge-rail configuration, anchorage, stop-log geometry, guide configuration, lifting and retention systems, and hydraulic details shown or implied have not been fully developed or verified.
The attachment presents two alternative conceptual approaches for the project. Concept 1 illustrates an extended stop-log operating face using aluminum stop logs in corrosion-resistant guide frames positioned for operation from above, combined with a low-maintenance metal bridge-rail system. Concept 2 incorporates gated or removable access sections in the bridge-mounted railing above the WCS operating area to improve operator proximity and access to stop logs while maintaining required vehicle-containment and personnel-safety functions when the rail system is secured. Both concepts include reference photography of existing conditions showing the current bridge overhang and timber stop-log water-control structure. The document explicitly states that final gate, rail, latch, anchorage, structural details, and all component specifications must be designed and verified by the Design-Builder and are not prescribed by these preliminary illustrations.

FOR INFORMATION ONLY - PRELIMINARY CONCEPTS - NOT FOR DESIGN OR CONSTRUCTION
Purpose and Limitations. The illustrations in this attachment are preliminary conceptual visualizations provided only to help quoters understand the Government's intended operational outcome and examples of approaches that may satisfy the Statement of Work. The concepts are not to scale and do not represent completed engineering designs. Dimensions, structural geometry, bridge-rail configuration, anchorage, stop-log geometry, guide configuration, lifting and retention systems, hydraulic details, and other features shown or implied have not been fully developed or verified.
The illustrations are not intended to prescribe, limit, or endorse a specific design, manufacturer, product, material configuration, or construction method. Quoters remain responsible for proposing one complete, technically feasible design-build solution that satisfies all requirements of the solicitation and Statement of Work.
In the event of a conflict between these illustrations and the Statement of Work, the Statement of Work governs.

Concept 1 - Extended Stop-Log Operating Face with Metal Bridge Rail
CONCEPT ONLY - NOT TO SCALE - FINAL DESIGN BY DESIGN-BUILDER
Concept 1: Illustrates one possible approach using aluminum stop logs in corrosion-resistant guide frames positioned for operation from above, together with a low-maintenance metal bridge-rail system. The depicted bridge/WCS geometry, rail type, member sizes, anchorage, and number and size of stop logs are conceptual and may not match final field-verified conditions.

Concept 2 - Gated/Removable Bridge-Rail Access with Aluminum Stop Logs
CONCEPT ONLY - NOT TO SCALE - FINAL DESIGN BY DESIGN-BUILDER
Concept 2: Illustrates one possible approach incorporating gated or removable access sections in the bridge-mounted railing above the WCS operating area. The intent is to improve operator proximity and access to the stop logs from above while maintaining the required vehicle-containment and personnel-safety functions when the rail system is secured. Final gate, rail, latch, anchorage, and structural details are to be designed and verified by the Design-Builder.
