About this file

This is a letter report from Northern Industrial Hygiene documenting an indoor air sampling assessment conducted at the Main Lodge Building of 4 Lazy F Ranch in Moose, Wyoming on May 21, 2025.

The assessment was conducted at the request of Hennebery Eddy Architects, Inc. to visually document the presence of bat guano and conduct air sampling for Histoplasma capsulatum. Large amounts of bat guano were observed on the floors and walls throughout all rooms in the main lodge. Four polymerase chain reaction (PCR) air samples (PCR-1 through PCR-4) were collected from representative locations: the kitchen, dining/living room, great room, and bedrooms. Laboratory analysis by EMSL Analytical, Inc. revealed that airborne Histoplasma capsulatum was absent in all tested locations, with all samples marked as acceptable. Northern Industrial Hygiene recommends retaining a remediation company to remove and dispose of accumulated feces, remove porous materials that contacted the feces, thoroughly clean remaining surfaces with an appropriate disinfectant, and identify and seal all building openings where bats and other vectors are entering. The report notes that conclusions apply only to site conditions existing at the time of investigation and may not apply to future conditions.

RE: Letter Report Indoor Air Sampling for Histoplasma capulatum

Main Lodge Building 4 Lazy F Ranch

Moose, Wyoming Northern Industrial Hygiene Project No. 999-5237

Dear Ms. Landon:

At your request, Northern Industrial Hygiene (Northern) visited the above described project site on May 21, 2025. The purpose of our visit was to visually document the presence/absence of bat guano or other vector feces and conduct air sampling for the presence/absence of Histoplasma capsulatum. The inspection focused on the Main Lodge Building.

Overview

It was reported to Northern that bat guano (feces) was accumulated on the floor throughout the Main Lodge Building. Northern was contacted to conduct to visually confirm this condition and to conduct environmental air sampling for the presence or absence of Histoplasma capsulatum.

Observations

Large amounts of bat guano was observed on the floors and walls in all of the rooms in the main lodge.

AIR SAMPLING FOR HISTOPLASMA CAPSULATUM

Four Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) air samples (A-1 through A-4) were collected in representative areas of the Main Lodge Building. Laboratory results are present in the following table:

CONCLUSIONS

Laboratory analysis revealed that airborne Histoplasma capsulatum was not present in the tested locations at the time of Northern’s investigation.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Northern recommends a remediation company be retained to remove, bag and dispose of all feces that has accumulated on horizontal surfaces. Any porous materials that came into contact with the feces that therefore cannot be adequately cleaned should also be removed, bagged and disposed. All remaining surfaces should then be thoroughly cleaned with an appropriate disinfectant. The remediation company should also identify and seal all openings in the building where the bats and other vectors are entering the building.

LIMITATIONS

This assessment report was prepared based on the laboratory results of the samples collected during this survey and information gathered during the site visit.
