About this file
This is a scope of work attachment prepared by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission (NGPC) for cedar tree clearing and firebreak preparation at the Wapiti Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The project involves removing cedar trees at varying distances from designated firelines across multiple work areas, with specific cutting and debris management requirements for each zone. Cedar trees within 150 feet or 300 feet of firelines must be cut at or below ground level, depending on the designated area. Removed trees shall be stuffed under live, green cedars where possible, or piled in designated areas, provided that piling and stuffing do not occur within 300 feet of the fireline or 150 feet of any powerline. All existing downed trees and old piles must be moved beyond the 300-foot line. The project also includes clearing trees capable of falling on boundary fences, mulching trees and branches within 150 feet of the interior burn unit boundary, and relocating previously cut trees to appropriate distances from the burn line. If fence damage occurs during tree removal operations, contractors are responsible for repairs, except where the fence will be replaced by NGPC.
The scope of work is divided into ten distinct work areas or units, each with specific instructions mapped to designated polygons and color-coded boundaries shown in referenced maps. Scott Aden, NGPC Biologist, is the primary contact for project oversight and questions (308-535-8025; scott.aden@nebraska.gov). The document does not specify pricing, contract term, bidding deadlines, site visit requirements, or award timelines, indicating this is a detailed technical specification component rather than a complete solicitation document.

All cedar trees within 150’ are to be cut at or below ground level. Trees shall preferably be stuffed under live, green cedars, but making piles where stuffing is not possible is also acceptable. Piling and stuffing shall not occur within 300’ of the fireline or within 150’ of any powerline! There are many existing downed trees and old piles that shall be moved past the 300’ line as well.
If fence is damaged as part of the tree removal work, the contractor is responsible for fixing the damage.

All cedar trees within 150’ in addition to the trees in the smaller polygon are to be cut at or below ground level. Trees shall preferably be stuffed under live, green cedars, but making piles where stuffing is not possible is also acceptable. Piling and stuffing shall not occur within 300’ of the fireline or within 150’ of any powerline! Any existing downed trees and old piles shall be moved past the 300’ line as well. All cedar trees within 300’ (pink) or 150’ (red) are to be cut at or below ground level. If fence is damaged as part of the tree removal work, the contractor is responsible for fixing the damage.
pg. 7
All trees that are capable of falling on the boundary fence shall be cut and cleared away from the fence line. This applies to trees growing on NGPC’s side of the fence only. Any trees that are currently growing in the fence line may be left. This fence will be replaced so repairs will not be necessary.
pg. 8
All of the trees in this area have already been cut. They need to be moved at least 300’ away from the burn line and stuffed under live, green trees or piled.
pg. 9
All trees and old branches within 150’ of the interior side of the burn unit must be mulched.
