About this file

This document includes technical specifications for a river pump site installation project and details for a related federal contract solicitation. The river pump site project involves installing a center pivot irrigation system and requires furnishing and installing a pressure pump rated at 5,000 gallons per minute with 175 feet of total dynamic head, a submersible pump for a screen rated at 600 gallons per minute with 251 feet of total dynamic head, a variable frequency drive to control the pressure pump, a self-cleaning screen with openings no larger than 0.125 square inches, and modifications to an existing pump house and manifold system to accommodate the new equipment while allowing isolation of individual pumps for both pivot irrigation and flood irrigation simultaneously. The related federal contract solicitation provides an opportunity for contractors to install the center pivot irrigation system and requires attendance at a mandatory site visit on either February 21st or 22nd, with registration by February 20th, to submit a proposal.

Project: Install Center Pivot Irrigation System – Fort Keogh Livestock & Range Research Laboratory, Miles City, MT

RIVER PUMP SITE EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS

Part 1 General

1.01 Description of Work – River Pump Site Equipment Installation A. An authorized center pivot dealer will furnish, install and place in satisfactory operating condition center pivot(s) and pumps and all required appurtenances in accordance with the approved plans and specifications.

B. The river pump site will have 1 pressure pump installed for the center pivots and another submersible pump installed for the screen. Note: 2 existing pumps will remain at the pump site for flood irrigation.

C. A manifold system will be designed and installed to allow the water from any of the 3 pumps to go to either mainline out of the pump house.

D. The pressure pump for the center pivot will be controlled with a variable frequently drive (VFD) and the screen pump will be on soft start panels. The power for the pumps is 480 volt three-phase power.

1.02 Design Criteria

A. All equipment furnished will be new and unused, and will be the product of a manufacturer having successful experience in the manufacture of center pivot irrigation equipment and developing/establishing pump sites.

B. All equipment provided will be capable of maximum interchangeability of spare parts. The equipment incorporated in this proposal will be the product of, and furnished by, a manufacturer who is regularly engaged in the production of such equipment for similar applications, and who has an experience with installations similar to that contemplated in these specifications.

C. All of the equipment will be the manufacturer's latest and proven design. Specifications call attention to certain features, but do not purport to cover all details entering into the design of the entire river pump site.

D. All electrical components of the pumps will operate from a 480-volt, three-phase, 60-Hertz, 4-wire power supply to be provided at the river pump house.

E. All controls for remote, electrically operated or motor driven equipment will be complete, including all necessary auxiliary relays, so as to require only remote wiring and wiring connections to the equipment.

F. All necessary fuses or switches required by the manufacturer for his equipment will be provided with the equipment.

G. The manifold will have to allow for flood irrigation and for pivot irrigation at the same time. Every pump will have to be able to be isolated.

H. Manifold will have three 20” inlets with 20” gear operated butterfly valves and two 24” outlets with 24” gear operated butterfly valves. Steel for manifold will have to be minimum of 36” in diameter and 0.5” thick walls with domed ends. There will be three 20” globe style check valves, flanges are all class D, three 36” gear operated butterfly valves, and ports for pressure gage and air vacs.

I. The pressure pump that will be installed for the center pivot and the two existing flood irrigation pumps will connect to the manifold. The pressure pump will have to produce 5,000 gallons per minute (GPM) at 175 feet of Total Dynamic Head (TDH) for the minimum requirements.

J. The submersible pump for the screen will have to be 600 GPM with a TDH of 251 feet for the minimum requirement.

K. Wiring will need to be updated in the pump site housing to handle the pressure pump and screen pump.

L. Modifications to the existing pump house many be needed to fit new pressure pump and manifold.

M. The location of the pumps in the pump house needs to be cleaned out before installation of new pressure pump and submersible pump.

N. Screen that is installed will need to be self-cleaning and the openings on the screen are not to exceed the maximum of 0.125” square.

O. The VFD installed will needs to be able to have the capability to operate two lag pumps.

PIPELINE INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS

Pipeline to support irrigation from pump site to center pivot locations for the North Line and South Line Phase I shall follow size specifications and locations as depicted in the Site Overview Document.
