About this file
This document is a specifications attachment for a federal construction contract project at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi for the repair and replacement of a basketball floor in Building 1201 (Project Number MAHG251046, Contract FA301026R0009).
The project comprises three main sections covering distinct flooring types and finishes. Section 09 62 40 addresses modular athletic flooring installation, requiring interlocking suspended polypropylene copolymer tiles (25cm x 25cm x 12.7mm) with proprietary maple or solid color finishes, factory-applied urethane coating, and a 281 hexagonal cell support structure. The system must include multi-purpose recycled rubber underlayment (5mm or 7mm thickness) and game line striping for basketball (blue), volleyball (red), and pickleball (brown) in aliphatic polyurethane paint. The flooring must meet specific performance standards including force reduction of 25-35%, ball rebound of 100%, abrasion resistance per ASTM D4060, and support 1,000,000 dynamic load cycles. The manufacturer must be ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified with minimum 15 years' experience, and the installer must provide evidence of five completed similar projects within the past two years. A 15-year limited warranty on materials is required. Section 09 64 66 specifies MFMA hard maple tongue-and-groove strip flooring (25/32" x 2-1/4", Grade 1 or better) for the racquetball court with HPS laminated sleepers, 6-mil polyethylene vapor retarder, urethane finish, and red game line striping, warranted for one year from installation. Section 09 65 13 requires 6-inch-high resilient base (ASTM F1861 thermoplastic rubber or vinyl, Group 2 layered) for wall installations using low-pollutant-emitting, water-based adhesives. Environmental conditions must maintain 55°F to 80°F (13°C to 27°C) during storage and installation, with permanent HVAC operational before and after work. All installations require concrete slab flatness tolerance of ±1/8 inch within any 10-foot radius, proper surface preparation, and a 3-5 day curing period with restricted access post-installation.
