About this file

This document is a Known Hazards General List for Camp Darby/Darby Military Community in Italy, effective as of January 2016.

The document identifies and catalogs occupational health and safety hazards across five operational areas of the military installation: Camp Darby, Depot, Ammo, and LTA. Common hazards across all areas include vehicular traffic (private cars, forklifts, shuttle buses, military transports, refueling tanks, and trash collection vehicles) with associated risks of collision, crushing, and interference with operations; high pedestrian traffic with risk of pedestrian strikes; non-European compliant signage and bilingual communication gaps creating misinterpretation risks; potential asbestos exposure in aged pipelines, coverings, and gaskets; biological hazards from insects and animal nests in green areas; and falling pine cones from trees in parking areas and roadways. Area-specific hazards include the Camp Darby area's irregular sidewalk pavement near Building 204 and poor lighting near the Water Treatment Plant (Buildings 402 & 405); the Depot area's proximity to Fire Department emergency response vehicles near Building 5164 and toxic pesticide materials at Building 5143; the Ammo area's temporary construction sites with trenches, gas tank storage, explosive and flammable material storage, and presence of wild animals such as deer and wild pigs; and the LTA area's general vehicular and pedestrian traffic hazards. The document provides emergency contact procedures for medical incidents (911 or 050/547114), fire emergencies (117 or 050-547117), and references the Protection & Prevention Office (633-7841 or 050-547841) for additional safety clarifications and access to detailed risk assessment documents.

8. Potential interaction with security personnel in the area/facility due to operational contingencies, Risks: interference with security forces operations - verbal communication misinterpretation

9. Potential presence of asbestos containing materials on old pipelines, coverings, gaskets; (refer to specific evaluation document available at Environmental Office), Risks: asbestos accidental exposure

10. Green area surrounded facilities may hide insects or other animals’ nests, Risks: biological

11. Trees surrounded parking places and/or along cross ways

Risks: exposure to pine cones falling

12. 4 Way stop crossroad (not European traffic code compliant), Risks: yield misinterpretation - collision

15. Presence of dangerous materials with signs reporting HAZARD WASTE, Risks: accidental exposure

16. In case of operational contingencies it will be required to use a second gate from North-side of the Area.

Risks: construction site crowded area – heavy-duty machines traffic – open diggings – temporary provisions’ work installation
