About this file
This architectural narrative outlines upgrades needed for an Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) system at the VA North Texas Healthcare System campus in Bonham, Texas. Key aspects of the project include upgrading facility fiber optic cabling to each telecommunications room, providing redundant cabling, designing a new data center and remodeling 20 telecommunications rooms to accommodate additional network equipment. The scope also involves locating spaces for three telecommunications enclosures, upgrading electrical and HVAC systems as required, conducting security assessments and hazardous material abatement. Plans must adhere to EHRM guidelines and have approved variances for any non-compliant elements. Construction is to be phased to minimize disruptions to healthcare services using a plan approved by the VA. Relevant codes and standards include VA, NFPA, IBC, NEC and accessibility requirements.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for construction services for the EHRM upgrades at the Bonham campus. The solicitation number is 36C77624B0007 and opportunity number is VA-23-00092679.

Project Overview and Background
Spur Design is providing professional A/E services to design an expedited, compliant, and complete construction and activation of a new Electronic Health Record Modernization
(EHRM) system at the VA North Texas Healthcare System, Bonham (VHANTX). The scope includes upgrading facility fiber throughout the buildings to each TR room, provide a redundant fiber run throughout the facility to each TR room, provide redundant fiber mains to the new demarcation rooms inside new TR’s from the provider point, design a new Data Center on the
5th Floor of building 1, design or remodel 20 TR rooms, locate spaces for 3 TE enclosures throughout the facility, upgrade facility HVAC and electrical distribution as required, physical security assessment and upgrades and hazardous material abatement in new TR’s and new
MCR locations as needed. All new design must adhere to the EHRM guidelines or have variances in place to defer requirements.
A site visit was conducted from 10/26/22 – 10/28/22. The following items were reviewed and verified:
• Existing Room Names and Numbers to ensure our existing plans were true to what was currently on site.
• Existing floor areas served by each TR room.
• Existing building functions and departments surrounding each TR room.
• Number of existing racks currently in each TR room.
• Existing telecommunication cabling types.
• Verification of adjacent spaces to ensure that the required TR expansions would be able to be accommodated within that space.
• Existing room dimensions to ensure our as-builts were accurate in size and location
• Existing electrical outlet layouts in each TR room.
• Existing Data drop locations for all buildings within scope.
