About this file
This CFD analysis report details simulations conducted for the Main Computer Room of the VA medical center in Bonham, TX. The analysis modeled one 70kW CRAC unit operating at full capacity to cool fully-loaded data center equipment in an initial room temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Over a 10-minute transient simulation, the average room temperature dropped to 74 degrees Fahrenheit with inlet temperatures to racks ranging from 64 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit and outlet temperatures of 82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The simulation determined that a single unit at full output could sufficiently cool the space and equipment. Key metrics analyzed included temperature distributions, airflow vectors, component temperatures, and fluid forces on walls. Accompanying visuals depict results from various viewpoints and planes.
The related federal contract opportunity is for construction services for EHRM projects at the VA medical center in Bonham, TX, solicited by the VA Technology Acquisition Center in Austin under solicitation number 36C77624B0007. The opportunity involves construction of a new MCR and aims to incorporate the thermal analysis findings to adequately cool IT infrastructure as the facility is built out.

Summary
DESCRIPTION
This report contains the results and images from a CFD simulation of the Main Computer Room
(MCR) for the VA medical center in Bonham, TX. This report displays the findings from a simulation of a MCR using of one 70kW CRAC unit at full capacity to cool data center equipment running at full load. The initial temperature of the room was set to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This was a transient analysis that ran for roughly 10 minutes. At the end of the 10 minutes the average room temperature was 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Inlet temperatures into the racks ranged from 64 degrees Fahrenheit to 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Outlet temperatures out of the racks ranged from
82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The simulation found that one unit running at full capacity was sufficient in cooling the space and the equipment.
