This document is an Administrative Regulation (AR 1500-03) from the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) detailing the Facility/Office Orientation Program effective July 1, 2023. The regulation establishes comprehensive orientation procedures for new, promoted, transferred, and reinstated employees, contract workers, and volunteers across CDOC facilities and offices. The orientation program mandates at least 40 hours of training before employees undertake their assigned responsibilities, covering topics such as facility purpose, goals, security regulations, emergency procedures, safety protocols, interpersonal conduct, sexual harassment prevention, mental health awareness, and facility-specific operational strategies.
The document outlines specific training requirements, including specialized 32-hour training for Youthful Offender System employees and mandatory National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) certifications. The orientation process involves detailed documentation, including orientation checklists, evaluation forms, and certification documents. Field Training Officers (FTOs) are selected through a rigorous application and interview process, requiring certified employees with strong performance ratings, disciplinary-action-free records, and demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills. The regulation emphasizes a structured approach to ensuring new personnel are thoroughly prepared and integrated into their roles within the Colorado Department of Corrections.
