About this file

This is a Standard Operating Procedures document for DLC Hearing Aid Accessory Naming conventions that establishes naming requirements for all contracted hearing aid accessories.

Item names must be 30 characters or fewer, including spaces, and use all capital letters with single spaces between description levels. Special characters including dashes, slashes, underscores, parentheses, and ampersands are prohibited. Names shall employ logical, industry-standard terms and abbreviations that are intuitive and closely aligned with commercially published names. For items without pre-defined abbreviations, vendors must use a taxonomic naming format following either: Product category / secondary description / tertiary description / quaternary description (if needed) / color (if needed), or Primary item type or name / Secondary category or further description / Size or further description / L or R designation / color. The document provides comprehensive abbreviation tables for product categories (including ADPTR for adapter, BD for battery door, CBL for cable, CHRGR for charger, DOME for dome, ERHK for earhook, MIC for microphone, PIN for pin, TUBE for tube, and VC for volume control, among others) and color designations (including GRY for grey, BRN for brown, BLU for blue, BGE for beige, and multiple two-word color combinations such as GRPH GRY for graphite grey and VLVT BLK for velvet black). Longer names are encouraged when they provide intuitive clarification of the item's actual purpose or function.
