About this file

This document is an appendix defining typical non-routine maintenance tasks for elevator and escalator systems. The tasks encompass eight primary categories of work performed by contractors on various lifting and transportation equipment components.

The specified maintenance activities include: dismounting and disassembling failed or worn elevator and escalator components for third-party repair and subsequent reinstallation; re-cabling of existing elevators and associated equipment; troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment in machine rooms, escalator truss lines, and pits; rewiring and repairing circuit panels and boards; developing accurate circuit diagrams and schematics through examination of existing wiring; performing emergency repairs of unforeseen nature, including emergency re-cabling due to damaged cables or ropes, sheave bearing repairs, and motor generator repair or rebuild; repair and replacement of escalator handrails, step chains, motors, gears, and drive assemblies; and repair and maintenance of accessible lifts such as inclined stairway chairlifts and inclined or vertical platform lifts. This appendix serves as a reference document outlining the scope of non-routine maintenance work that contractors may be required to perform under a maintenance services contract.
