• Mower or bush hog

• Chainsaw

• Machete

• Protective equipment, such as head gear, eye protection, clothing and gloves shall be used by all mechanical and chemical applicators.

The contractor shall practice proper sanitation procedures for equipment and by workers to avoid unnecessary spreading of invasive exotic pest plant species within and from the treatment sites. Prior to entry into the site areas, earth moving and excavation equipment (motorized or hand powered) will be inspected and cleaned of extraneous soil and debris.

Earth moving and excavation equipment used in areas where invasive species are present will be cleaned free of debris and soil within an upland area near the infected area prior to removal of the equipment from the area. Equipment cleaning will include a combination of mechanical removal of excess dirt and washing with a mobile pressure washer, if necessary.

This protocol will help prevent the transport of invasive species seeds or propagules (roots, tubers, etc.) to unaffected areas.

All Federal, State, and local regulations will be followed and authorizations obtained to ascertain the successful and safe application for burning these materials.

3. Site preparation The contractor shall coordinate delivery of necessary equipment and personnel to make required mechanical treatments.

Mechanically removed vegetation shall be stockpiled in a suitable location(s) within the project site as designated by the Engineer for removing offsite or for burning as needed.

4. Treatment The contractor must submit to the COR an Exotic Plants Species Plan that includes the methods and equipment to be used for removal and/or treatment of invasive exotic plant species identified at the site. The plan shall include such items as:

• Schedule and sequence of vegetation removal and or treatment tasks and procedures.

• A controlled burn plan complying with County ordinances, if proposed.

• Identify methods and locations for the disposal of cut vegetation.

• Identify and locate access sites to the treatment areas.

5. Quality Control System

On a weekly basis, in conjunction with the daily logs, the contractor shall identify (delineate on a map and/or flag, and describe) for the NRCS Inspector, which portion of the area has been completed. The contractor shall notify the NRCS Inspector at least 48 hours in advance of his work schedule, including area where the contractor will be working and hours of work.

7. Measurement and payment

Method 1—For items of work for which specific unit prices are established in the contract, each area treated is measured as specified in section 8 of this specification, Items of work and construction details, and the area calculated to the nearest 0.1 acre. Payment for treatment is made at the contract unit price for the designated treatment, which will constitute full compensation for all labor, equipment, materials, tools, and all other items necessary and incidental for completion of the work.

When specified as an item of work, mesh or netting is measured to the nearest square yard of surface area covered and accepted. Payment is made at the contract unit price and will constitute full compensation for all labor, equipment, materials, tools, and all other items necessary and incidental for completion of the work.
