PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide rough carpentry:

1. Framing with dimension lumber.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product used.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers, which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years.

Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Lumber Standards and Grade Stamps: DOC PS 20, American Softwood Lumber Standard and inspection agency grade stamps.

C. Construction Panel Standards: DOC PS 1, U.S. Product Standard for Construction and Industrial Plywood; APA PRP-108.

D. Wood Framing Standards: NFPA House Framing Manual.

1. Exterior Wall Framing: 2 inch by 4-inch nominal (38 mm by 89 mm actual) studs, 16 inches (40 cm) on center.

2. Interior Wall Framing: 2 inch by 4-inch (38 mm by 89 mm actual) studs, 16 inches (40 cm) on center.

E. Preservative Treatment: AWPA C2 for lumber and AWPA C9 for plywood; waterborne pressure treatment. Provide for wood in contact with soil, concrete, masonry, roofing, flashing, dampproofing and waterproofing.

F. Fire-Retardant Treatment: AWPA C20 for lumber and AWPA C27 for plywood;

noncorrosive type. Provide at building interior where required by code.

3. Sill Sealer Gaskets: Glass fiber strip resilient insulation.

4. Framing Anchors and Fasteners: Non-corrosive, suitable for load and exposure.

Drywall screws are not acceptable.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Securely attach rough carpentry work to substrate by anchoring and fastening as indicated, B. Plywood: Comply with applicable recommendations contained in APA Form No. E30K, "APA Design/Construction Guide: Residential & Commercial"

C. Provide nailers, blocking and grounds where required. Set work plumb, level and accurately cut.

D. Install materials and systems in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals. Install materials and systems in proper relation with adjacent construction. Coordinate with other work.

E. Comply with manufacturer's requirements for cutting, handling, fastening and working treated materials.

F. Restore damaged components. Protect work from damage.

2. SECTION 06175 WOOD TRUSSES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide prefabricated and pre-engineered wood trusses to match existing construction.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product used.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings indicating material characteristics, details of construction, designed snowload appropriate for site and elevation, connections, and relationship with adjacent construction.

1. Shop drawings shall be prepared and stamped by a qualified engineer licensed in the jurisdiction of the project.

C. Warranty: Submit manufacturer’s standard warranty.

1. Rated snowload minimum of 225 lbs per sq ft.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers, which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years.

Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Standards: TPI 1, "National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction." and fabricate wood trusses within manufacturing tolerances in TPI 1

C. Design Engineering: Registered engineer.

D. Fire-Retardant Treatment: AWPA C20 for lumber; non-corrosive type.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Wood Trusses:

1. Lumber Standard: PS 20 American Softwood Lumber Standard.

2. Dressing: Dressed four sides.

3. Species: Softwood species of specified grade.

4. Species: Manufacturer's option.

5. Moisture Content: Seasoned, 15 percent maximum.

6. Moisture Content: Seasoned, 19 percent maximum.

7. Grade for Chord Members: Select Structural.

8. Grade for Chord Members: No. 1.

9. Grade for Chord Members: No. 2.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install and brace trusses according to TPI recommendations and within installation tolerances in TPI 1.

B. Install materials and systems in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals. Install materials and systems in proper relation with adjacent construction. Coordinate with work of other sections.

C. Install trusses plumb, square, and true to line and securely fasten to supporting construction.

D. Restore damaged components. Clean and protect work from damage.

3. SECTION 07310 SHINGLES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide shingles for roofing applications. Note: See Section 07313 WOOD SHINGLES.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product used.

B. Samples: Submit two representative samples of each material specified indicating visual characteristics and finish. Include range samples if variation of finish is anticipated.

C. Warranty: Submit manufacturer’s standard warranty.

1. Rated Material Lifespan: minimum 50 years and 110 MPH wind rating.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers, which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years.

Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Asphalt Shingles:

1. Type: Heavyweight, laminated, organic-felt strip shingles.

2. Type: Three dimensional, fiberglass, laminated strip shingles.

3. Note: Possible manufacturers of approved products include Atlas Roofing

Corporation, Celotex Roofing Products, CertainTeed Roofing Products, GAF Materials Corp., Georgia Pacific Corp., Owens-Corning Fiberglass, or approved equal.

B. Accessories:

a. Hip and ridge shingles.

b. Underlayment felt, ASTM D 226.

c. Self-adhering sheet underlayment, granular or polyethylene Surfaced:

ASTM D 1970 perimeter underlayment.

d. Metal flashing and drip edge.

C. Wood Roof Shingles:

1. Type: Western red cedar smooth-sawn CSSB's "Grading Rules for Certi-grade Red Cedar Shingles."

2. Accessories:

a. Asphalt-saturated felt, 30 lb.

b. Metal flashing and drip edge.

c. Ridge vent.

d. Prefabricated hip and ridge shingles.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Comply with recommendations of NRCA Steep Roofing Manual.

B. Install materials and systems in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals. Install materials and systems in proper relation with adjacent construction and with uniform appearance. Coordinate with work of other sections.

C. Install water protection sheet (30 lb. felt) at valleys, ridges, and eaves.

D. Restore damaged components. Clean and protect work from damage.

SECTION 07313 WOOD SHINGLES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This section specifies wood shingles.

1.2 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver material to the site, undamaged, with labels intact. Store out of the weather in a well ventilated area.

PART 2 - PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Wood Shingles.

1. VG, 16 inch, No. 1 Western Red Cedar (WRC), maximum width 10 inch, minimum width 4 inch.

B. Nails.

1. Hot-dipped galvanized box nails, size as required to firmly secure the shakes or shingles to sheathing( 2 per shingle). Nails shall not penetrate exposed surfaces. Equivalent stainless steel staples may be used in lieu of nails with the approval of the Contracting Officer.

C. Felt

1. ASTM D226, Type II, 30 pounds/square.

D. Flashing.

1. 26 gauge G.I.

PART 3 - PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 WOOD SHINGLES

A. Lay shingles with 5-1/2 inch exposure. Apply double starter course at eaves. Project first course 1-1/2 inch beyond sheathing. Space shingles 1/4 inch apart and staggers joints 1-1/2 inch in adjacent courses. Joints in alternate courses shall not be in direct alignment.

B. Finish hips and ridges "Boston Style" with concealed fastening.

C. Install metal flashing in all valleys. Extend 10 inch on each side of valley center. Saw all shingles extending into valleys to the proper miter.

D. Install metal flashing at intersections with vertical surfaces. Extend flashing 8 inch under shingles.

E. Apply shingles with two fasteners per shingle, 3/4 inch from the edge and not more than 1 inch above the exposure line.

PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT (NOT USED)

SECTION 07411 METAL ROOF PANELS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide manufactured roof panels.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product used.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings indicating material characteristics, details of construction, connections, and relationship with adjacent construction.

C. Samples: Submit two representative samples of each material specified indicating visual characteristics and finish. Include range samples if variation of finish is anticipated.

D. Warranty: Submit manufacturer’s standard warranty. Include labor and materials to repair or replace defective materials.

1. Warranty Period: 10 years.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers, which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years.

Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Wind Uplift: UL 580 for Class 90 wind uplift resistance.

C. Fire Resistance Rating: UL Fire Resistance Directory, 2 hour assembly rating.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

C. Restore damaged components and finishes. Clean and protect work from damage.

5. SECTION 07710 MANUFACTURED ROOF SPECIALTIES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide prefabricated roof specialties.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product used.

B. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings indicating material characteristics, details of construction, connections, and relationship with adjacent construction.

C. Samples: Submit two representative samples of each material specified indicating visual characteristics and finish. Include range samples if variation of finish is anticipated.

iv. Materials: Formed aluminum panels, 0.60 inch thick.

c. Finishes:

i. Application: Factory-applied.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

2. INSTALLATION

a. Comply with accessory manufacturers' instructions and recommendations.

Coordinate installation with roofing system to ensure weathertight performance.

Anchor securely to structure to withstand inward and outward loads.

b. Isolate dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion.

c. Test and operate units; clean, lubricate and adjust moving parts.

6. SECTION 09910 PAINTING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Provide the following:

1. Painting and surface preparation for interior unfinished surfaces as scheduled.

2. Painting and surface preparation for exterior unfinished surfaces as scheduled.

3. Field-painting and surface preparation of exposed mechanical and electrical piping, conduit, ductwork, and equipment.

4. Repainting and surface preparation at areas of remodeling.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each material and product proposed for use. Government will provide color requirement.

B. Samples: Submit two representative samples of each material specified indicating visual characteristics and finish. Include range samples if variation of finish is anticipated.

1. Include manufacturer’s full range of color and finish options if additional selection is required.

C. Extra Stock: Full building projects: Submit 1 unopened gallons of each paint and color used in the project. Touch-up and remodeling projects: Submit 1 unopened quart of each paint and color used in the project.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. Government shall provide color information, or match existing for remodels and touch-up work.

B. Manufacturers of Regular Paints: ICI Devoe Coatings, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams or approved equal.

C. Manufacturers of Multicolor Coatings: Polomyx, Zolatone or approved equal.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Inspect surfaces, report unsatisfactory conditions in writing; beginning work means acceptance of substrate.

B. Comply with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for preparation, priming and coating work. Coordinate with work of other sections.

C. At existing areas to be repainted, remove blistered or peeling paint to sound substrates.

Remove chalk deposits and mildew and wash all surfaces with mild detergent. Perform related minor preparation including caulk and glazing compounds. Spot prime bare areas before priming and painting as specified.

D. Match approved mock-ups for color, texture, and pattern. Re-coat or remove and replace work which does not match or shows loss of adhesion. Clean up, touch up and protect work.
