JIM BROWN CREEK BOX CULVERT

MODIFICATION TO THE SOLICITATION

6/28/2013

Below are questions asked at the pre-solicitation tour on June 7, along with the answers to the questions. Also included is a brief description of the modification to the scope of work.

Questions and Answers Q1) Who is responsible for relocating the public utilities in the roadway, i.e. power and telephone?

A1) The utility companies are responsible to relocate the utilities at their expense. The Contractor will be responsible to coordinate the relocation of all utilities with the utility companies.

Q2) What is the Engineer’s estimate for amount of excavation for the stream relocation?

A2) A very rough Engineer’s estimate for stream relocation excavation is 1350 cubic yard. This item will still be paid as a lump sum item and the FS is not providing an official estimated quantity.

Q3) Rather than using ground protection mats for the stream relocation excavation can the contract proposed haul routes on higher, firmer ground that will minimize damage to wet lands soils and vegetation, along with using slash mats or other means of protection for the excavation equipment?

A3) Ground protection mats are not identified in the revised bid schedule (Section B). Haul routes that minimize ground disturbance will be allowed upon approval of the CO. Other means of mitigating ground disturbance in the wet land caused by the excavation or hauling equipment may be allowed upon approval of the CO. Care shall be taken to minimally disturbed wetlands soils and vegetation, all mitigation measure required by the Contractor will be incidental to item 20434 Stream Channel Excavation.

Q4) Can the Potlatch Corporation road adjacent to the site be utilized as a haul route for the Stream Channel Excavation?

A4) We have not obtained approval from Potlatch Corporation at this time, we will continue to try to make contact with them. This road may or may not be available for a haul route.

Modification in the Scope of Work

The decommissioning of a small road system in Deer Gulch has been added to the scope of work. Please see the revised Section B, Section C, and Drawings attached. Stream bed simulation material can be used from the Deer Gulch Road Decommissioning. Excess material that is removed from the road bed must be disposed of at the Musselshell Quarry Site. The Deer Gulch Road Decommissioning is approx. 5 miles from the Jim Brown Creek Box Culvert site. The Mussleshell Quarry is approximately ½ mile from the Deer Gulch site.
