About this file

This is an Asbestos Inspection Report for Building HP55 at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, dated May 19, 2021.

Building HP55 is a barracks and enlisted quarters (BEQ) facility constructed in 1976 with a hazard ranking of 0/BLUE, indicating no asbestos-containing materials (ACM) were identified during the initial inspection. The report states that no asbestos was identified and no further action is required. However, the document includes notification of ACM previously identified in the structure, with samples collected on June 28, 2006. The historical ACM materials identified include 12-inch tan and white floor tiles with adhesive, 2x2-foot ceiling tiles, base cove/mastic in hallways and dorm rooms, wallboard, piping insulation in mechanical and laundry rooms, window caulking on the deck, miscellaneous sealants, and textured ceiling material, all located across various building areas including lounge areas, dorm rooms, hallways, mechanical rooms, and laundry rooms. Laboratory testing of 22 samples collected in 2006 showed zero percent composition of chrysotile, amosite, and other asbestos fibers across all materials tested. The report specifies that ACM intact and undisturbed does not present a significant health hazard; however, disturbance must be avoided to prevent fiber release. Building occupants should report any damage, dust, or debris to the Asbestos Program Manager at (910) 451-5837. Periodic inspections of ACM will continue to evaluate condition changes, with records maintained by the Camp Lejeune Asbestos Program Manager.
